Good afternoon everyone,
Today Amandine will share her unique experience in Cambodia with you ! 🌏
Here is her story:
Today it has been one year that I went on Global Volunteer to Cambodia.
Just graduated in Business Management, I took some time to live my passion, travelling!
As I had already gone backpacking and volunteering to South America and Africa, I wanted to discover another place: Asia! My project, called “Cambodia Child Care”, was teaching English to underprivileged children. In reality it was far more than that: it was also about teaching and giving them love and ensuring them a brighter future.
In this experience, I could see the two contrasting faces of Cambodia: on the one hand, it is a country that has been affected a lot by a recent genocide that killed the majority of intellectual people. However, it’s there that I met the kindest people who have strong values and fight every day for their family and for what they believe in. There, I had to deal with a lot of challenges (air pollution, lack of green spaces, gap of equality, heat…) that made me realize the good conditions of living in which we are living. As it is not a very touristic country yet, the countryside is still amazing and pure.
Going on exchange with AIESEC is not at all the same as travelling. It is about living like a local person and travel across the whole country. It is about becoming aware of the world issues and wanting to make a change for a better life and society. It is about discovering others and especially discovering yourself. It is a unique adventure you must experiment as you are young.
Today I wanted to make even more positive impact and I am currently working in the National Office of AIESEC in France in Paris. I am proud to say that this was one of the best and most MEANINGFUL experiences of my life. Be also a Global Volunteer!
“Success has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself. It’s what you do for others”. I think I am very successful!
