On May 29, our partner DINAMO celebrated the 10th anniversary of their Repair Café. 🎉
In preparation for this anniversary, the needlewomen put together a flag line for an entire season. Each flag represented a successful repair. This festive edition started with 122 flags! Additional flags were added during the event.
Besides the presence of the usual repairders, needlewomen and a giveaway stall, they added some extras:

📚 A free workshop 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 > giving a next purpose to discarded books, donated by the local library Bibliotheek Turnhout.
📓 A free initiation of the 𝐀𝐫𝐭 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐚𝐟é > a relaxing and creative occupation in group.
📿 𝐉𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐫𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐫 > for longer lasting bling bling
🌳 An information stand of Meer Natuur in de Stad Turnhout (more nature in town) > to stimulate the 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 of the city environment.
🖼️ 𝐄𝐱𝐡𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 of the Crea-atelier (creative studio) > recycling artworks on the theme of paper

Project - Repair Café 🛠️🪡

During fall we want to establish a Repair Café at Kulturhus Bunkeren, just as the ones we know in the city center of Aarhus. The plan is to team up with Repair Café Aarhus, to see if the northern part of Aarhus has potential as well.

Open House concept: Kulturhus Bunkeren provides location, workspace for a couple of hours and marketing for the citizens in the area, Repair Café will facilitate and bring a caddy with utilities for repair. People can then show up with things they need help to repair or that they do not know how to fix. This could be electronics, a flat tire or a piece of clothing - we will help them fix and repair their things - and hopefully will Repair Cafe at the northern part of Aarhus, have as much success as the ones in the center of Aarhus. 🤩

Last Tuesday May 7th, the Danish partner FO-Aarhus, organized a recycling workshop, again at Haldor in Aarhus the same wonderful location as last time.

We once again teamed up with local green actors: Repair Café, Kirkens Korshær Aarhus, Café Nicolai, project Åben tilbud & - Housekeeping. Almost a copy paste from our last successful workshop also at Haldor. 🤩

People had the opportunity to learn about and try different types of upcycling projects: repairing of electronics, crafts like sewing and baking with leftovers. 🔌🪡🧁

75 years old and 3 life cycles. ♻️

Last year, Skejby Rangers restored 16 old sofa stalls that were left behind at the former student bar. After many years of use in the student bar, they smelled nasty, were sticky, worn and needed both new foam and reupholstery.
The sofas are about 75 years old, they started their lifecycle long before we took over the old school of journalism. They were originally train seats for about 25 years where they transported people from A to B, before ending up in the student bar, where they will continue to be for many years, after this restoration.

If we are lucky, the sofas might celebrate their 100th birthday. 💚

New project! 🧵🪡

Skejby Rangers sewing room is now taking on fixing clothes from the employees at the local companies in our area. 👕👖👗

We will pick up their damaged garments or clothes there needs alterations at their company reception, fix the clothes at our sewing room and send it back to their reception again to be picked up.

We always advocate to repair clothes, rather than throwing them away and buying new. 💚♻️

🚲Bicycle, bicycle,... Queen already knew the advantages of riding a bicycle!
Unfortunately, owning a bike is not an option for everyone. Kids often need a bicycle to go to school but they grow fast.

De Fietsbieb is a widespread volunteer initiative in Flanders (Belgium) that provides to lend a children's bibycle each year. A bicycle can easily be exchanged for a larger one as the child grows.

📍 There are already 110 lending stations in Flanders! It stays affordable for everyone: lending a bicycle only costs 20 euro per year. Donating an old bicycle even provides a free one-year membership!

♻️ Donated and stray bicycles are repaired and maintained by volunteers. They dismantle bicycles that are beyond repair and recycle the parts as spare parts.

🌏 Less C02 emissions, less waste. It's better for your health and ecological footprint!

On Wednesday april 24, our partner DINAMO organized their monthly Repair Café, with an extra ecological workshop called 'Flower seed bombs'. 🌸

Els and Jet, volunteers for DINAMO and for Meer Natuur in de Stad Turnhout, took care of this workshop for adults and children. These seed bombs were composed to make every garden a hotspot for bees and butterflies. 🐝🦋

Besides experiencing the soothing effect of mixing seeds with a mixture of potting soil and bentonite, the target group was informed about the benefits of insects and greening the urban environment 🌏
