🧐 How do you recognise a real cooperative business?

4 principles – Democratic Governance, Participation, Empowerment, Sustainability (DPES) – are essential to foster the cooperative identity. When promoting international development across borders, cooperative development organisations ensure these principles are respected in each action.

⚠️ When one or more of these principles are overlooked or poorly integrated, the sustainability and identity of coops are put at risk - “pseudo-coops” - jeopardising the success of the development intervention.

The Recommendation recognises business transfers in all their forms, including through , and calls on Member States to provide dedicated financial instruments for and .

A win for cooperatives and business continuity in Europe, but the battle is not over. Now the MFF negotiations must include support for business transfers in the European Competitiveness Fund ( ).

How can Europe build a digital future that works for people, not just a handful of big tech giants?

Today, our President, Giuseppe Guerini, opened the DO Impact Final Conference at the EESC - European Economic and Social Committee with a keynote on the role of data, AI and the social economy in shaping a more democratic digital future.

His message was clear: "digital transformation is not an inevitable fate. It is a process that we can steer."

As AI and digital platforms reshape our economies, cooperatives have a key role to play. By putting people before profit, sharing value fairly and strengthening economic democracy, they offer a model where innovation serves communities, not concentration of power.

Building Europe's digital future is not only about technology. It is about governance, trust, participation and ensuring that data and AI create value for society as a whole.

Thank you to Diesis Network and all partners for bringing together policymakers, researchers and social economy actors to discuss how we can build a digital ecosystem that is more inclusive, resilient and democratic.

💬"We want be competitive under conditions of true equality, on a level playing field governed by the rules of democracy, rather than by the rules that digital capitalism would like to impose on us."

Today, our President Giuseppe Guerini delivered a video message on the occasion of the International Cooperative Day . It is a call to change the language of economics: to move from competition based on greed to cooperation based on equality.

Where there are more cooperatives, there is more democracy and more peace.
'Cooperatives for a Peaceful World.'

Happy !

Happy International Day of Cooperatives.🙌🎉

Across Europe and the globe, we mark the theme 'Cooperatives for a Peaceful World.' 🏳️.

While history shows that competitive greed often drives division, the cooperative model prioritises collective action and shared needs. We are building an economy that replaces conflict with democratic participation.

What does a contribution to peace look like? It looks like the members of Molochna Rika. They demonstrate how cooperatives adapt to extreme pressure to ensure fair incomes and food security. We are pleased to help share their progress and highlight the role of coops in achieving SDG 16.

🎥 In this video, members of Molochna Rika share how solidarity, mutual support and cooperation have enabled them to rebuild their cooperative and continue serving their communities despite the ongoing conflict.

As we approach the International Day of Cooperatives on 4 July, we invite cooperatives everywhere to mark by sharing how they are contributing to peace in their communities and beyond.
