Speakers: Şebnem Yücel (Middle East Technical University) and Harriet Harriss (Pratt Institute)
Dr. Harriss - a Professor at Pratt Institute, a Visiting Professor at the Graduate School of Architecture Johannesburg, South Africa and a qualified Death Doula - has established an international reputation for pioneering scholarship that draws upon feminist, post-humanist, and anti-colonial theories in efforts to advance pedagogies, policies, and professional practice. Dr. Harriss' is also an award winning writer, whose recent titles include Architectural Pedagogies of the Global South, Architects Afterlife: the multi-sector Impact of an Architecture Degree and 100 Women Architects in Practice - the latter of which was voted one of the Top 10 Architecture and Design Books of 2024. Her practice work is explored within residencies including Arctic Circle (2024), Institute of Public Architecture (2024), Taconic Fellowship (2025-26) and Kingsland Wildflower Residency (2026) and focuses on death, dying, ecological grief, and architectural afterlives; topics that form the the subject of her next book, An Incomplete Atlas of Death & Dying Architectures (2027).
