The European Centre for Democracy and Human Rights (ECDHR) is a Brussels-based NGO, working as part of a coalition of NGOs that consist of - the Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) in Washington D.C., the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) in Copenhagen, DK, and the Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy (BIRD) based in London, UK- all seeking to promote human righ
ts and democracy in the Gulf region with a particular focus on Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen. ECDHR regularly carries out extensive research on human rights issues in the Gulf countries, and has recently published a website on prisoners in Bahrain, the Cost of Freedom in Bahrain. The website is available in Spanish, French, and Italian in order to bring these issues to a broader audience. ECDHR is also involved in the work of Defenders for Medical Impartiality (DMI), an international NGO working to ensure that noninterference with medical services during armed conflict or civil unrest is protected. We bring together human rights advocates and healthcare professionals from the Middle East and across the globe to advocate on behalf of codifying and protecting the concept of medical impartiality and to document regional violations.
