Student association for aerospace students Op een bepaald moment verdween deze vereniging jammer genoeg uit het Oostendse studentenlandschap. Zoals I.

EUROAVIA Oostende is gegroeid uit de feitelijke vereniging OASA (Ostend Aviation and Space Association) dat een heel succesvol verleden kent. Gelukkig waren er enkele enthousiaste studenten die OASA terug een nieuw leven wouden inblazen. In het academiejaar 2010-2011 was het zover: OASA was herboren! En meteen volgde er een succesvol eerste jaar. Met liefst 68 leden werden er tal van activiteiten

georganiseerd, voor elk wat wils. Wegens het geslaagde eerste jaar en het welbevinden van de leden werd er besloten om OASA aan te sluiten bij de internationale vereniging EUROAVIA. Dit is dè Europese associatie voor luchtvaartstudenten. Met een totaal van ongeveer 1200 leden is de vereniging present in 31 steden in 17 Europese landen. Het heeft als hoofddoel het contact tussen de studenten en de luchtvaartindustrie te bevorderen. Het biedt meer mogelijkheden om activiteiten en dan vooral internationale activiteiten te organiseren. Na de goedkeuring op het AMEAC congres van EUROAVIA te Dresden werd OASA omgedoopt naar een vzw, EUROAVIA Oostende. Vanaf nu beloofd het alleen nog maar beter te worden met tal van boeiende activiteiten in het vooruitzicht. EUROAVIA Oostende heeft het voorrecht dat de campus IWT te KHBO een unieke luchtvaartopleiding aanbiedt. Luchtvaart begint voor velen onder ons op school, maar daar blijft het niet bij. EUROAVIA Oostende laat jullie verder kennismaken met de hedendaagse lucht- en ruimtevaartindustrie. Zo worden er regelmatig lezingen georganiseerd waarbij specifieke woordvoerders uit de luchtvaartwereld onze kennis zullen vervolledigen. Ook worden er een aantal bedrijfsbezoeken georganiseerd waarbij er wordt bekeken hoe het er op de werkvloer aan toegaat. Het is de bedoeling om een tipje van de sluier van de bedrijfswereld op te lichten waar voor velen onder ons de toekomst ligt te wachten. Tevens brengt EUROVAVIA Oostende een driemaandelijks tijdschrift uit, zodat al onze leden de innovaties en laatste ontwikkelingen in de luchtvaart op de voet kunnen volgen. Ten slotte zijn we van mening dat lucht- en ruimtevaart meer is dan enkel vlieg- en ruimtevaarttuigen. Sikorsky zei:

“Aeronautics is neither an industry, nor a science. It is a miracle.”

Daarom wordt er ook tijd gemaakt om internationaal succesvolle airshows waar stuntpiloten het beste van zichzelf geven bij te wonen. EUROAVIA Oostende probeert zijn steentje bij te dragen aan de wetenschap en technologie in een sector die nood heeft aan jonge, ambitieuze mensen.

✈️ We had the pleasure of attending the very first lecture of The Wednesday Wing Club, organised by Charlotte Van de Vooren, where Erik Watzeels, an airport operator from Brussels Airport, shared his perspective on the implementation of the Single European Sky. It was an incredibly insightful session that sparked interesting discussions about the future of European airspace and aviation operations.

A big thank you to Boeing and KU Leuven Brugge for organising this initiative and giving us the opportunity to participate in such an engaging event. Special thanks as well to Frank Buyschaert for arranging the location and welcoming the students and other guests from Bruges.

After the lecture, everyone enjoyed some great networking, fun conversations, and even some time on the flight simulator at the EUROAVIA Bar.

📅 Don’t miss the next sessions on 1 April and 20 May. The topics will be announced soon, but they will definitely be worth attending for anyone passionate about aviation!

Last thursday we had the pleasure of Saint-Nicholas visiting our school. He came straight from Spain, though this time he decided to take his plane for a ride instead of his boat.
