🥕 Did you know? Between 1950 and 1999, 43 crops in the US lost nutrients: –16% calcium, –15% iron, –38% vitamin B2.
You can eat enough and still lack vitamins and minerals. It’s called “hidden hunger”, and it affects over 2 billion people.
So what can farming do about it?
We just hosted a webinar on exactly that!
3 takeaways:
🌿 Healthy soil, healthy plants, healthy people. Farmers can start by testing the nutrient content of their crops in local labs and comparing results with regional reference data for similar crops.
🔬 NutriScope, a pocket-sized spectrometer, lets farmers check their plants right in the field.
🚜 Farming practices shape the nutritional quality of our plants, and even what’s in our milk and meat.
👏 A big thank you to Raiza (RHEA), Alaa (SENSEEN) and Maëlle (House of Agroecology) for sharing their knowledge and perspectives, and to everyone who joined us for such an engaging discussion!
At House of Agroecology, we want to keep exploring these connections between healthy soils, nutritious food and healthier people.
