7Hills Skatepark

In the framework of our youth-empowerment skate program, we cooperate with local NGOs to organize weekly skateclasses. and develop a loaner program with skateboards that are free to use at the skatepark. The goal of the loaner program is to make skateboarding accessible to diverse social groups such as refugee youth and other vulnerable groups. Our skate classes provide a safe place for leisure and physical education for diverse youth in Amman. We also organize regular outreach sessions at Zaatari, the largest Syrian refugee camp in Jordan, and the Palestinian Gaza camp in Jerash. Currently, we offer four different skate classes every week: with Sudanese families, Iraqi and Syrian urban refugees, and Palestinian kids from the Gaza camp in Jerash. In addition, we hold daily skate sessions at 7Hills Skatepark with local Jordanian kids from the neighborhood, who also help other kids during skate classes. Every week, our skate program reaches an average reach of 125 kids with an approximate 70% refugee youth. with ages ranging from 3 years to 25 years. At the moment, the participation of girls represents 30-40%. One of our main goals is to accomplish a 50% female participation at 7 Hills. Since the skate program started, the community involvement has increased significantly. Every day there are more local kids who show up at the skatepark, and most of the time their parents and families join the skate classes to enjoy the public space.
