IAAS is the International Association of Students in Agricultural and Related Sciences. Another main part of IAAS is the Exchange Program.

The International Association of Students in Agricultural and Related Sciences (IAAS) is an international non-profit and non-governmental student society headquartered in Leuven, Belgium. IAAS is present in 49 countries, with 108 local committees and 10,000 members worldwide! By the activities we organize our members get the opportunity to learn about agriculture and exchange experience, knowledge

and ideas in all different parts of the world. IAAS organizes a bunch of different activities:
First of all there is the yearly 3 week lasting World Congress where literally members from all over the world come together to talk about the future plans of our association, to experience the local agriculture and just to have fun together. Next to that on continental level there are local directors meetings in Africa, Americas and Europe. Then there are the exchange weeks and seminar weeks organized on initiative of our local committees whit one central agriculture related subject. With ExPro, as it is called, we offer students the opportunity to have a practical experience on a farm, a research institution or an university. Because this program is completely organized by our volunteering members the cost are minimal: just transportation and a small administration fee. Since our establishment over 20.000 students have taken part in our exchange program and took the opportunity to have this practical experience. As the 𝐈𝐀𝐀𝐒 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓–𝟐𝟔 journey comes to a close, we continue to reflect on the people and experiences that made this mandate meaningful. Today, we hear from S. M. Riaz-us Saleheen, 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕 & 𝑽𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏, 𝑰𝑨𝑨𝑺 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 2025–26, as he looks back on nearly six years of growth, leadership, friendships, challenges, and purpose.

“Nearly six years ago, I joined IAAS as a young agriculture student at PSTU. I never imagined that this small beginning would take me all the way to the global stage and eventually to serving as Global President of IAAS World.

IAAS gave me far more than positions, it gave me leadership, friendships, challenges, memories, and a purpose. From my local committee to the global leadership team, every step shaped the person I am today.

I am deeply grateful to every senior, teammate, friend, and IAASer who believed in me, guided me, challenged me, and walked beside me throughout this incredible journey.

This may be the end of a chapter, but it is certainly not the end of the journey.

Once an IAASer, always an IAASer.”

“IAAS has given me the chance to connect with people and realities from different parts of the world, while also finding ways to contribute to reducing structural barriers. Since joining in 2019, I have had the opportunity to take part in different spaces at national and regional levels, including the world level, serving as VP of Finance for 2025/26.

What I value most are the cultural exchanges, the friendships, and the memories built along the way. IAAS has changed the way I understand people, cooperation, and the world around me.

After all these years, I think what stays with me most is simple: the people you meet on the path, what you learn from them, and of course what you leave behind on their memories.”

“Four years ago, I joined IAAS as a young agriculture student, not knowing how much this organization would become a part of my life. From my first local committee experiences to eventually serving as the Vice President of External Relations of IAAS World, this journey has been truly special. Completing my tenure as VPER feels both exciting and emotional because IAAS has given me much more than leadership experience, it has given me friendships, opportunities, confidence, and countless memories. Representing IAAS, working with people from different countries, building partnerships and being part of global platforms have shaped me in ways I never expected. As I close this chapter, I am incredibly grateful for everyone who was part of my journey. Four years later, I leave IAAS world with a full heart and so much to be thankful for.”

“Some chapters are difficult to close because they have become part of who you are.

After 6 years in IAAS, closing my chapter as VPE brings a special kind of pride. Behind every exchange, meeting and challenge were people, stories, cultures and opportunities that reminded me why I chose to serve this association in the first place.

IAAS gave me the chance to lead, but above all, it taught me how to listen, adapt, take responsibility and keep believing in what people can build together across borders. I leave this mandate proud of what we achieved, grateful for every person who trusted, challenged and walked alongside me, and excited for those who will carry the work forward.

Positions end. Mandates end. But the people we become through them stay. And for that, IAAS will always be part of my story.

The continuous support, encouragement, and helpfulness of every single member served as my greatest source of inspiration. “Being part of IAAS for the past five years has been one of those experiences that is difficult to fully put into words. But beyond everything, I will always remember the people I met, the conversations we shared, the laughter, the challenges, and all the small moments that made these years special.
