Last week alumnus Mahs-Maulp Supanut Udomsilaparsup won the 2nd Prize of the Flemish Future Proef Awards for master's theses contributing to a sustainable future! The jury particularly appreciated his innovative approach to water-related urban planning. By combining traditional, local knowledge of water adaptation with contemporary techniques, he developed a hybrid design methodology that leads to realistic and applicable solutions. 💪🏼 Voluntary "sustainability reports" aren't enough. We need stronger and binding laws. The EU has already started adopting mandatory human rights due diligence, but many countries are still lagging behind. We can’t just shop our way to a better world. We need to vote and advocate for it. Should brands be legally penalized for human rights abuses in their supply chains? We read you in the comments 👀

⚖️ The Wild West of fashion is over. New EU laws now mandate that major brands identify and resolve human rights abuses in their supply chains. With more countries joining these initiatives, the "hidden cost" of fashion is finally being brought into the light of the law. We are moving from "voluntary" promises to legal accountability. This is a huge win for garment workers worldwide.

🪫 According to the "What Fuels Fashion?" report, the average transparency score for climate and energy is a meager 14%. We cannot fix the climate crisis if the fashion industry is still operating in the shadows. Fashion is one of the most energy-intensive sectors on Earth. Yet, less than a quarter of major brands have a public plan to phase out coal, and only 6% have disclosed broader renewable energy targets for their supply chains. When a brand refuses to show us how they power their factories, they are asking us to trust them blindly while the planet burns.

💧 It’s easy to think of a white T-shirt as "basic," but its journey is nothing like that.
