👉 How do we make care careers more attractive, fairer and sustainable? 🤝
On 14 October, EfVET co-organised the workshop “Rethinking Care Careers: Gender, Skills and Wellbeing for Stronger Regions” at 2026, together with European Association for the Education of Adults - EAEA and EARLALL - European Association of Regional & Local Authorities for Lifelong Learning as part of the Gender Equality Task Force for Lifelong Learning.
Speakers brought European policy and regional practice together:
🔹 Borboly Csaba (European Committee of the Regions) called for permanent regional care skills partnerships and for linking training to fair pay, safe conditions and clear career pathways.
🔹 Violaine Roggeri (European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA)) presented the 2026–2028 Healthy Workplaces Campaign. 29% of workers report stress, depression or anxiety caused or worsened by work.
🔹 Zoé Dedobbeleer Carlier ( CIDFF de la LOIRE) shared how Centre-Val de Loire trained around 1,000 future care professionals across 18 institutes to prevent gender-based violence.
🔹 Dr. Arja Flinkman (Etelä-Savon ammattiopisto Esedu) showed how Finland rewards further learning through a flexible salary model and micro-credentials.
🔹 Emilio Dogliani, EfVET Advocacy and Project Manager, argued for stronger permeability between VET and higher education, and for challenging the stereotypes that still keep boys out of care and girls out of STEM.
The takeaway: training alone isn’t enough. Making care careers attractive means connecting skills with fair pay, safe workplaces and real progression, and that takes cooperation across every level of governance.
