Saint valentine vzw is committed to supplying school materials to the less privileged, mainly children in Nigeria. Since the creation of saint valentine vzw we have done everything we could to provide school supplies to children from poor families. We also have purchased our school supplies from poor school supplies retailers, instead of buying every school supplies we could from a big time wholesaler or a distributor. In this way, we have made a positive effect in assisting the children as well as the poor school supplies sellers. If you like what we do and you are in a place to donate to keep this program up. We had to visit Hassan Usman model primary school in Modoji, Katsina again to check up on the kids and see how their education is going and of-course do what we do best, handling out free school materials to kids in need of it. Valentine Wilfred

It's the 3rd year in a row we have been privileged to do what we set out to do. Touching lives where it's needed with high hopes to inspire love, care and a future to look towards for kids who are desperately in need of it.

This year is no different from last year, we continue to buy school materials from poor local Nigerian market sellers instead of big overseas producers/marketeers. That's because our strategy is to help two sides with one strike: On the one hand we put money in the business of a struggling retailer and on the other we are able to give out the school materials for free to those who need it the most.

Yesterday marked another amazing day for Saint Valentine with the second edition of Summer Slam 3 X 3 Basketball. First of all we would like to thank everyone who showed up to help raise money for schools in Nigeria, and secondly our heart goes out to everyone who volunteered. From baking pies and cookies, managing the BBQ, taking pictures and so on, to cleaning up afterwards: Each and every little thing has been greatly appreciated.

May the light keep spreading, mostly onto our (future) youths, and keep helping to make the world a better place.

Onlangs sloegen we bij Saint Valentine opnieuw de handen in elkaar en bundelden onze krachten met die van de Hassan Usman model primary school te Modoji, Katsina. Daar werd vorige week een quiz georganiseerd voor de leerlingen van het zesde leerjaar, want ook het stimuleren van pientere jonge geesten en het aanzetten tot kritisch denken behoort tot ons doel. Nigeria heeft een overvloed aan jongeren - meer dan de helft van de bevolking is er jonger dan 30 - en net die jeugd vormt de basis voor de toekomst. Na afloop konden we tot slot ook dankzij diverse donaties opnieuw lokaal aangekochte boeken en ander schoolgerei uitdelen, and more importantly: Een mooie glimlach toveren op het gezicht van vele kinderen :)

Met dank aan onze vele vrijwilligers en aan iedereen die heeft gedoneerd. Zonder jullie was dit niet mogelijk geweest!

Bij Saint Valentine vzw maken we de bewuste keuze om zo weinig mogelijk spullen overzees te sturen naar Nigeria en maximaal in te zetten op lokaal gekochte producten. De reden hiervoor is een vaak weinig geweten feit (waarvoor deze post): Het verzenden van kleren, boeken, etc naar Afrika doet eigenlijk meer kwaad dan goed. De impact hiervan werkt namelijk verwoestend op lokale economieën. Kleine handelaars ter plaatse slagen er onmogelijk in hun eigen producten te verkopen, want er valt geen concurrentie aan te gaan met “gratis” overzeese spullen. En net deze handelaars vormen het hart van de economie.

Door dus bij Saint Valentine liever geld in te zamelen en hiermee de nodige spullen ter plaatse te kopen, vangen we twee vliegen in één klap: De aanschaf van hoognodig materiaal voor jonge studenten die dit zelf niet kunnen veroorloven, alsook het verlenen van een boost aan diverse lokale kleine handelaars, die zo op hun b***t hun eigen cyclus van armoede kunnen doorbreken. Op deze manier dragen we niet enkel op korte, maar ook op lange termijn bij aan de toekomst van Nigeria.

Aid and development are deeply complex and there are no easy answers. The physical donations of goods, be it food or clothes, often have negative impacts on the local economy. Saint Valentine VZW (Making the world a better place) Donates School Materials to Kids In Nigeria.After a long hard work, we recently donated what we have to stimulate local businesses and gave out free school materials to those who need it, We bought a total of 3300 school materials from local traders in order to stimulate the local economy and small businesses, rather than to get cheaper school materials from a multinational/national company or from a wholesaler, we did this because we believe we can impact two problems with one project..
Our team is very motivated and happy with the result of this project, we look forward to doing more good and stand with the already lifted hands in making the world a better place
