World Mental Health Day 💛

Lately, we've been reminded of something that sounds obvious, yet is surprisingly easy to forget:

Without balance, even meaningful work can become unsustainable.

Over the past year, Asian Persuasion has grown in ways we never imagined. Alongside that growth came more events, collaborations, opportunities and responsibilities.

Somewhere between our full-time jobs, community work and everyday life, we realised we were spreading ourselves a little too thin.

That's one of the reasons why we've decided not to take on any additional projects this year and why we postponed our Community Day to February. For now, we're focusing our energy on our upcoming event on 21 November and trying to practise what we often encourage others to do: taking care of ourselves.

Mental health isn't only about what we do when things fall apart. It's also about recognising our limits before we get there.

So on World Mental Health Day, consider this a gentle reminder to check in with yourself and with the people around you.

Over the past few weeks, many conversations have focused on misogyny, r**e culture, incel culture and violence against women.

At the same time, discussions about racism, homophobia, transphobia and other forms of discrimination continue to shape public debate. These may seem like separate issues but they're often connected.

There's a word for this: intersectionality.

Intersectionality helps us understand how different aspects of our identity interact, and why different forms of discrimination often overlap and reinforce one another.

At Asian Persuasion, we focus on Asian representation and the experiences of Asian communities. But we also recognise that racism doesn't exist in a vacuum. It intersects with gender, sexuality, disability, class and many other lived realities.

Understanding those connections doesn't divide us. It helps us understand each other better. 🧡

Diaspora Rising ✨

Last weekend, we had the pleasure of supporting the very first edition of Diaspora Rising, an initiative by Chandler aka LouLou Pogi that brought together creatives, performers, makers and community members at Het Textielhuis in Kortrijk.

As a partner, Asian Persuasion supported the project behind the scenes through mentorship, advice and by commissioning the event artwork an Asian artist within our community.

It was especially rewarding to see so many familiar faces on stage, with several performers having previously been part of Asian Persuasion events and projects.
Community isn’t built alone. It’s built by sharing knowledge, creating opportunities and creating space for others to grow.

Congratulations to Chandler and everyone involved on a beautiful first edition. We were proud to play a small part in it and can’t wait to see how ✨ Diaspora Rising ✨ continues to grow. 💛

Listening is a choice.

Recent discussions around the use of "ching chang chong" in music have once again highlighted how difficult conversations about anti-Asian racism can become.
When Asian communities speak up about experiences of racism, the conversation too often shifts away from impact and towards defending intent. What follows are familiar responses: "it's just a joke", "people are too sensitive", "freedom of speech".

This post is not about censorship. It's about listening.

It's about recognising that phrases many dismiss as harmless carry a long history of mockery, exclusion and racism for those who have experienced them.

Representation is not only about being visible. It's also about being respected.

Another look behind the curtain of Asian Persuasion.

You’ve seen some of these moments before. What keeps surprising us is how much of this journey lives in between: the listening, the laughing, the trust built one conversation at a time.

And while these moments keep us going, we’ll be honest with you: we’ve learned to set boundaries too. Because we’re exhausted and saying “no” is still hard sometimes. 😅 Turns out protecting our energy is part of the work too.

Thank you to everyone who keeps showing up, listening and building with us.

Last week's call went further than we expected. Thank you for believing in what we're building. 💛

But we need to be honest. Signups from Belgium-based Asian artists are painfully low. There's a real lack of visibility and opportunity for Asian creatives right here at home. We want to change that.

Asian Persuasion is a small nonprofit, we work with limited funds. We must prioritize artists based in Belgium or nearby European regions. The closer, the better.

The stage in November is tight. No full bands or large groups. We still need 1 dance act (solo/duo), 1 martial arts act (performative), 1 music act (20–30 min, high energy, small setup).

We welcome artists with Asian heritage and lived experiences.

Beyond this event, we have other projects, events, and collabs in the works. Our focus is building a local foundation, but we'll expand as we grow.

Asian Persuasion is growing and we're looking for new talent to join our roster.
For our November 2026 edition, we're specifically booking live performers in music, dance and martial arts.

But we'd still love to hear from you if you operate in other areas: speakers, vendors, volunteers etc…
