From 2006 on, KIOSK has been organizing a changing exhibition program for both emerging and established contemporary artists. KIOSK started in a small glass pavilion and moved in February 2010 to a permanent and larger gallery space. This venue is located in the former anatomical theatre of Cloquet Insitute, a renovated historical building on the Bijloke site in Ghent. KIOSK was initiated jointly

by non-profit organization Kunstensite and KASK, the faculty of Fine Arts at the University College Ghent. KIOSK is generously supported by the Flemish Authorities and the city of Ghent.

A few glimpses of Peter Van Hecke’s performance 𝘈 𝘊𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘩𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘋𝘰𝘵𝘴 during Bijloke Wonderland this weekend.

Simultaneously at the kiosk in Citadelpark and the corridor at Kunstenbibliotheek, his project unfolded, inviting visitors to set spinning tops in motion. Their movements generated magnetic signals and amplified sounds, becoming the basis for a live musical performance by Ellen Preuss and Alexander Gavilán, improvising across jazz and flamenco influences.

𝘈 𝘊𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘩𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘋𝘰𝘵𝘴 is the first part of 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘋𝘰𝘵𝘴, a four-part project by Peter Van Hecke for KIOSK.

𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗷𝗸𝗲 𝗗𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 I

On Saturday August 29 at 15:00 Marijke’s family, friends, artists and colleagues will gather at KIOSK to celebrate her life. This will not be a formal ceremony but an open space where you can contribute in whatever way feels right to you: by reading a text, sharing a personal anecdote or story, giving a performance, singing a song, or offering any other gesture that celebrates her life and memory.

Don’t be shy: Marijke would not tolerate it!

The commemoration will be followed by a drink at Marijke’s favourite bar, Fatima, which will be open from 4 p.m.

KIOSK asked Simon Wald-Lasowski to fill this year's advertising space in the magazine Metropolis M.

Simon Wald-Lasowski developed a series of advertisements composed of details drawn from historical satirical public-domain images. He is particularly interested in how, despite the passage of more than a century, the themes of imperialism and corruption depicted in these works remain disturbingly relevant. While the political actors have changed, the underlying structures of power appear largely intact.

By combining these archival fragments with bizarre objects and phrases extracted from articles, films, music, and other forms of popular culture, Wald-Lasowski constructs unexpected visual collisions. Through the absurdity of these juxtapositions, the work opens a brief space for imagination – a moment of derailment, wonder, and perceptual shift.

𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀: 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗴𝗶𝘂𝗺 🇧🇪 & 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 🇩🇪

For her upcoming project “IA Love Bots” artist Loïs Soleil () is looking to interview individuals who have developed romantic feelings or deep emotional connection to an AI companion.

As part of her residency with the European Media Art Platform (EMAP) at Werkleitz Centre for Media Art, she is exploring the rise of digital intimacy and how algorithms are reshaping our experiences of love and desire today. Her goal is to create an immersive installation based on these vulnerable, real-life testimonies.

She is specifically looking for users in:
- Belgium/Brussels and surroundings (current research phase).
- Germany/Halle (Saale) and the surrounding Saxony-Anhalt region (upcoming residency phase).

Not all brains process social information the same way. Differences in Von Economo Neurons (VENs) may contribute to autistic people relying less on fast, intuitive processing and more on deliberate, analytical reasoning. This can mean greater accuracy in some contexts – but also greater cognitive effort and fatigue in others.

A little throwback to the finissage of Hisae Ikenaga’s solo exhibition ‘𝘼𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙐𝙨𝙚’ and our group exhibition 𝙈𝙖𝙡𝙜𝙧é 𝙏𝙤𝙪𝙩. Thank you for joining us for this wonderful and energetic afternoon. We had the pleasure to present:

À Gand, consacrait la première exposition personnelle belge à avec Anatomies of Use.

L’artiste détourne objets industriels et éléments du quotidien pour suspendre leur fonction première. Outils, cylindres, céramiques ou dispositifs techniques changent de statut. Ils deviennent des formes étranges, à mi-chemin entre sculpture, vestige archéologique et objet familier.

Mais Ikenaga ne parle pas de nostalgie. Elle interroge notre rapport aux choses fabriquées. Ce qu’elles conservent. Ce qu’elles perdent. Et les nouveaux récits qu’elles peuvent encore produire.

In Ghent, KIOSK presented Anatomies of Use, Hisae Ikenaga’s first solo exhibition in Belgium.

The artist repurposes industrial and domestic objects, suspending their original function. Tools, cylinders, ceramics and technical devices shift in status. They become strange forms, somewhere between sculpture, archaeological remains and familiar objects.

But Ikenaga is not interested in nostalgia. She questions our relationship with manufactured things. What they preserve. What they lose. And the new narratives they can still generate.

Kunsthal Gent, SMAK Gent, and KIOSK invite you to a fishbowl discussion on the future of the visual arts sector in Flanders. This event wants to forge new connections, crossing the boundaries of artistic practices, collectives, and organizations, to exchange ideas together. How can we empower one another? How do we build bridges? How do we ensure a plurality of voices? And how can artists continuously develop their practice?

We will explore these questions together through a fishbowl discussion: a participatory format in which a small inner circle of 3–5 people discusses a topic while a larger outer circle listens. Anyone can join the conversation by taking an empty seat in the inner circle, making space for new voices and perspectives. Starting from the experiences of artists including Mark Požlep and Leen Van Tichelen, the discussion is open to everyone.
