From 2006 on, KIOSK has been organizing a changing exhibition program for both emerging and established contemporary artists. KIOSK started in a small glass pavilion and moved in February 2010 to a permanent and larger gallery space. This venue is located in the former anatomical theatre of Cloquet Insitute, a renovated historical building on the Bijloke site in Ghent. KIOSK was initiated jointly by non-profit organization Kunstensite and KASK, the faculty of Fine Arts at the University College Ghent. KIOSK is generously supported by the Flemish Authorities and the city of Ghent.

𝗞𝗜𝗢𝗦𝗞 𝗘𝘅𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗜 𝗩𝗲𝘃𝗮 𝗟𝗲𝘆𝗲 & 𝗝𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀, 𝙤𝙧𝙙𝙚𝙖𝙡 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙩

Drawing from seemingly endlessly proliferating word sequences—which arise from a single word through a simple rule and through association—Veva Leye creates montages that present the same words in completely different ways. Uncannily coagulating, these word images expand and contract in an accordion-like movement. A similar rhythm characterizes Jelle Martens’ (photo)graphic registrations that combine fragments, reproductions and trivial observations into layered prints and drawings. Every print layer, every drawing operates as a temporary frame bringing together images that only temporarily solidify, overlap, and fall apart again. Image and language tumble along, stumble upon. Letters form words form images reading looking.

KIOSK and het balanseer invite you tomorrow, Thursday October 1, to the book launches of "Het kwaad" (Frank Vande Veire) and "De Spijtige Herder 3".

"Het kwaad" by Frank Vande Veire explores the concepts of evil and sin through philosophical, literary and personal reflections. A selection of Vande Veire’s ‘werpsels’ will be read aloud by Lena Vande Veire, Melissa Mabesoone, Veva Leye, Elias Grootaers and Sébastien Conard.

The third issue of "De Spijtige Herder" brings together art and poetry and is edited by Gerard Herman, Nel Aerts, Jan Op de Beeck, Arne Bastien, and Vincent Geyskens.

This issue also features an interview with Maria Lassnig’s former assistant Hans Werner Poschauko, drawings by Jolijn Baeckelandt, and texts on painting in the contemporary art world. The back cover reproduces a recent self-portrait by Vincent Geyskens as an unnumbered screen print.

The evening includes poetry performances by Brunhilde Von Braun, Veva Leye, Vincent Geyskens and others, followed by live music by Rimov Rimov (Simon Joostens & Robbe De Pestel).

𝘚𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘔𝘦 𝘉𝘢𝘣𝘺 offers an unfiltered glimpse into the everyday life and creative process of Ommery De Zutter. Presented as a large roll of paper containing 10,000 unique QR codes, the work gives visitors access to the photographs stored on the artist’s phone.

Rather than selecting or organising images according to a predetermined narrative, De Zutter presents them without filtering, reflecting a practice driven by impulses, encounters and everyday experiences. Together, the images form a personal archive in which life itself becomes part of the artistic process.

KIOSK asked Simon Wald-Lasowski to fill this year's advertising space in the magazine Metropolis M.

Simon Wald-Lasowski developed a series of advertisements for Metropolis M composed of details drawn from historical satirical public-domain images. By combining these archival fragments with strange objects and references from popular culture, he explores the enduring themes of imperialism, corruption, and power. The unexpected juxtapositions create absurd visual encounters that invite curiosity, imagination, and a shift in perspective.

Ticket controllers paid €3.80 an hour, cultural mediators paid a pittance, security guards working 6 days a week, 8 hours a day, with no lunch break and paid less than €800 a month…

Camille Lemille invites you to meet the people who work behind the scenes of the Biennale: security guards, ticket controllers, cleaning staff, mediators, guides, and many others. Yet, remarkably, very few of them are directly employed by the Venice Biennale. For her self-published book 𝘉𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘦’𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘳𝘴, Lemille spent two months listening, asking questions, and joining a discussion group with these workers to explore their experiences of precarious contracts and poor working conditions.

The book gives voice to their experiences through a performative reading drawn from their real-life stories, shedding light on the working conditions behind one of the world’s most prominent art events.
