Belgium's speed pedelec boost.

Belgian mobility federation Traxio has released figures showing that, over the first nine months of 2026, Belgium has seen 13.4% more new speed pedelecs registered compared to the same period in 2025, bringing the total to 12,233. The second-hand market is also flourishing, where registrations are up to 32.5% higher than 2025, at a total of 9,823.

Bristol to restrict carbon-heavy advertising.

The UK city of Bristol has introduced an advertising ban on its council-owned screens for “high carbon” products and services, including all SUVs, and any businesses or organisations involved in the production or supply of fossil fuels.

Netherlands-based cycling media, Nieuwsfiets Media & Events, has confirmed that their proposed new OEM trade show for the bicycle industry, CycleExpo, will take place from October 6-8 2027 at Expo Greater Amsterdam.

The government of the Flanders region of Belgium has announced it will completely discontinue funding for the operation of Fietsberaad Vlaanderen, the independent knowledge centre which provides Flemish, provincial and local authorities with research, expertise and practice-oriented knowledge regarding cycling policy and infrastructure.

Integrating micromobility with high-speed rail

Tomorrow City looks at how integrating micromobility with high-speed rail through connected transport hubs can improve urban connectivity, support decarbonisation and help reduce dependence on private cars.

According to statistics cited by Sorbonne researcher Carlos Moreno, most urban journeys made by car cover less than 5 km. Providing convenient, sustainable alternatives for these shorter trips is therefore an important consideration in efforts to decarbonise urban transport. Micromobility options, including e-bikes, e-scooters and conventional bicycles, can help meet these needs while addressing last-mile travel and connecting passengers to wider public transport networks.
