EVapp - Emergency Volunteer Application

EVapp - Emergency Volunteer Application Betere overlevingskansen na een hartaanval dankzij EVapp & reanimatie door opgeleide vrijwilligers. Friday evening. The paramedics rush the man to the hospital.

The EVapp case scenario: how Evapp would work demonstrated using an example. While everyone in the restaurant celebrates the beginning of the weekend, an older man suddenly falls off his chair. The people that are sitting nearby get startled. When the man remains unconscious it becomes clear that the situation is serious. Personnel of the restaurant hurries to help and wonders if the man is having

a heart attack. His family panics and says that he passed out without warning. A man at a table next to the victim knows what to do. While all the customers slowly realize what is going on and calls 112 who activates EVapp. The app immediately searches for all the registered volunteers in the immediate area. The smartphone of a doctor, who coincidently is dining in another nearby restaurant, receives the emergency call. He accepts the call en receives the location of the emergency. He rushes to the victim and recognizes the symptoms of a cardiac arrest and starts resuscitation. Meanwhile another volunteer in the neighborhood has received the call and uses EVapp to find the nearest automatic defibrillator (AED). This all occurs in less than 2 minutes from the moment the man passed out.
7 minutes later, the emergency services arrive with an ambulance and take over the resuscitation. Later it becomes clear that the fast response of the volunteers has played an essential role in saving the man’s life.

❗ Today, if a cardiac arrest occurs outside of a hospital in Europe, the survival rate is still only 10%.

Developments in First Responder systems, to start resuscitation earlier and substantially increase survival rates, have been aligned in the 3rd Community First Responder Conference in Hinterzarten organised by Region of Lifesavers and supported by the German Resuscitation Council GRC/ Deutscher Rat für Wiederbelebung e.V..

Was an honour to be invited speaker in best practices and roadmap for first responder implementation for the Belgian system EVapp - Emergency Volunteer Application (developed by Prior-IT) together with Swiss system Fondazione Ticino Cuore.

Thank you to the organisers and dear colleagues!
