Forum for the Future of Agriculture The Forum for the Future of Agriculture is where agriculture & environment meet for open dialogue.

The Forum for the Future of Agriculture is the premiere meeting place in Europe to debate sustainable agriculture and environmental challenges. Since 2008, the Forum is where agriculture and environment meet for an open dialogue on the future of global food systems, biodiversity, ecosystems, climate change, trade and governance. By bridging the conversation between different stakeholders across the food system, the Forum serves as a unique space for an open debate where each and every perspective can come together to provoke forward thinking solutions, and where content is freely shared entirely with civil society. Each year, the Forum hosts its Annual Conference in March, with more than 1,500 persons attending in person in Brussels or online. The Forum also enables more local conversations in various Member States during bi-annually Regional/Special Editions and focuses on specific key thematics during international events throughout the year, including workshops and roundtables. Sharing its content in various forms, the Forum publishes articles and summaries alongside its Annual Report, but also releases regular interviews through its podcasts. Today, the Forum’s network is over 10,000 people in nearly 40 countries on five continents.

How can Europe measure progress towards more sustainable farming while keeping reporting simple and useful for farmers?

The Forum for the Future of Agriculture’s new report, 'Way forward: Towards an operational benchmarking system', explores a practical approach built around credible, affordable indicators that balance economic viability, environmental stewardship and social responsibility.

With soil health as a starting point and a “report once, use many times” approach, it proposes ways to connect existing sustainability schemes, reduce duplication and help farmers gain recognition for measurable progress.

The Forum is pleased to be co-organising a special side event at the 54th Session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS 54) in Rome on Friday 23 October 2026.

Entitled “From evidence to action: strengthening innovation intelligence for resilient and inclusive agrifood systems”, the event will bring together policymakers, farmers’ organisations, researchers, civil society and development partners to explore how innovation and digital technologies can contribute to more resilient, sustainable and equitable food systems.

Reflecting the Forum’s commitment to bringing diverse stakeholders together and turning dialogue into meaningful action, the discussion will examine how to bridge the gap between policy and practical implementation. Particular attention will be given to inclusive innovation, responsible digital transformation and the importance of ensuring that farmers and practitioners are central to shaping future solutions.

The event will also explore how evidence and knowledge-sharing tools can support better decision-making and accelerate progress towards more resilient agrifood systems.

Participation is available both in person and online, offering an opportunity to contribute to this important international conversation.

A new home for the Forum Annual Conference: Welcoming you to THE EGG

After many memorable years at the Square Meeting Centre, the Forum for the Future of Agriculture is excited to announce a new venue for its milestone 20th Annual Conference: THE EGG, in the heart of Brussels.

Housed in a striking New York-style former industrial building near Brussels-South station, THE EGG offers over 5,000 m² of flexible, modular space including a flexible auditorium, multiple meeting rooms, exhibition spaces and large multipurpose halls - giving the Forum room to grow its conference, exhibition and networking programme in one adaptable setting.

The move also strengthens the Forum's sustainability credentials: THE EGG holds the Ecodynamic label and Green Key certification and 95% of its guests already choose to arrive by public transport, thanks to its location right by Brussels-South train station including access to the Eurostar terminal - making it easier than ever for delegates travelling from across Europe to reach the venue by rail. The venue's central location also keeps the Forum close to the European Quarter.

As the Forum for the Future of Agriculture marks 20 years of leading the conversation on sustainable agriculture, THE EGG provides a fitting new stage: modern, sustainable, and built for the kind of open, cross-sector dialogue the Forum has always championed.

Mark your calendar for our 20th Annual Conference on Tuesday, April 20, 2027. We look forward seeing you there, in person or online, to celebrate together our anniversary.

In the latest edition of the Food Systems podcast, speaking during an interview at this year's Forum for the Future of Agriculture Annual Conference, Alex Turk talks to Cristina Bruce, Senior Vice President for Sustainability and Social Impact at Anglo American.

Cristina discussed the company's focus on sustainable agriculture and the development of polyhalite resources in the North of England. She highlighted the importance of innovation in fertilizer products to address global food security and soil health challenges. With the cost of fertilizer being impacted by the Middle East conflict, this is a timely reminder of alternative sources.
