🎧 NEW EPISODE ALERT! 🎧
We are thrilled to announce that the very first episode of our Disinfo Podcast series is officially LIVE! ✨
For this special premiere, we had the absolute honor of hosting Carlien Scheele, the Director of the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) (). to tackle a crucial question: Who gets silenced online? 🤫💬
In this episode, we dive deep into the intersection of gendered disinformation, stereotypes, and democracy. Carlien shares eye-opening insights and data on how online harassment and digital violence are being used to silence women and girls, and why this is a major threat to our democratic spaces.
From deepfakes to the "pressure cooker" of social media, we unpack why the internet isn't just "online drama" — it deeply shapes our real-world safety, choices, and voices. 🛑
A huge thank you to Carlien Scheele and the entire EIGE team for collaborating with us on this powerful conversation. 💜

🗳️ Trust, Truth & Democracy: Empowering Citizens through Media Literacy

Yesterday, we hosted the final event of our CERV-funded project, EU-DEM, coordinated by Alphabet Formation! It was an inspiring morning dedicated to exploring how media literacy can build stronger, more resilient democratic spaces.

Here are the quick highlights from our final dialogue:

Project Milestones🇪🇺: Fulvia Mastrocesare opened the event, and Maddalena Monis (Alphabet Formation) shared key achievements from our two-year journey.

On-the-Ground Impact🇸🇮: Domen Savič (Citizen D) showcased how media literacy drives active democratic engagement in Slovenia.

Fireside Chat🔥: (ALT-text) and (Bibliothèques Sans Frontières Belgique) discussed grassroots strategies for democratic resilience, moderated by Fulvia.

Research & Disinformation🧠: Prof. Sara Pereira and Pedro Moura (University of Minho & MILObs) shared vital insights on building resilience and how stereotypes shape disinformation.

Wrap-up🗣️: Anna concluded the presentations, wrapping up the sessions and thanking everyone for their incredible energy.

A massive thank you to our speakers, partners, and participants for joining us for this milestone and celebrating with us over a networking lunch! 👏

⚠️ Over 60% of young Europeans come across fake news more than once a week. And this isn’t just ‘funny news’ – it’s a genuine threat to our democracy.
Stereotypes and hoaxes used as online weapons to target women and marginalised communities, with the aim of driving them away from political and public life.

This is why the EU Fact Checker Network 🇪🇺 was created, a European project designed to defend our freedom of expression and the right to accurate and impartial information.

Together with journalists, fact-checkers, educators and activists, the project is taking action in five key countries to:
👉 Boost media literacy (teaching people to spot fake news).
👉 Debunk gender-based disinformation.
👉 Combat foreign interference that manipulates public debate.

Democracy only works if we are free to make informed choices. 💡
