5 September is International Day of Charity—a day to celebrate the power of kindness, generosity, and service to others.

Established by the United Nations, this day is observed on the anniversary of the passing of Mother Teresa, whose life was devoted to serving people in need. At Serve the City, we see every day how volunteers and supporters transform lives, strengthen neighborhoods, and build more compassionate communities.

Whether you can give your TIME, your SKILLS, or make a FINANCIAL contribution, you have the power to make a difference! Every volunteer brings hope. Every donation helps equip local teams with the training, resources, and support they need to serve their communities. Environmental volunteering involves hands-on activities and advocacy aimed at protecting, restoring, and sustaining natural ecosystems and local green spaces. Common activities include tree planting, waterway and community park cleanups, removing invasive plant species, and maintaining shared gardens.

Volunteers play a vital role in supporting and advancing inclusive, sustainable urban development. Because communities are shaped by the needs and aspirations of their residents, citizens are essential drivers of positive change.

Serve the City communities focus on reducing the environmental impact of urban areas, raising awareness about responsible waste management, and encouraging community initiatives that promote the sharing and responsible use of resources. Our projects demonstrate the many possibilities of a circular economy within cities by collecting and redistributing surplus goods, produce, and other available resources to people in need.

Thank you Serve the City Hannover e.V. for sharing this amazing project you did with your community, a gathering that will be remembered forever!
Newcomers, refugees, and local seniors came together for a beautiful day filled with laughter, connection, and mutual support. Although coming from different backgrounds and experiences, they quickly formed meaningful connections through shared moments of joy and inspiring conversations. This heartwarming gathering was a wonderful reminder that kindness, friendship, and human connection can transcend language and cultural barriers.

COME "DREAM THE FUTURE" WITH US! Registrations are now open for our very first YOUTH FORUM that will take place from Friday 9th - Saturday 11th October in Brussels, Belgium!

📣The Youth Forum is open to everyone on your Serve the City team aged 18-32 ~ core team members, project leaders, and volunteers. Serve the City International can fully fund the participation of 2 people from each city (food, accommodation and travel – more detail is provided in the registration form)
