💪⚙️ Eurochambres welcomes the European Commission’s proposals on Tech Sovereignty.

🌍 Against the backdrop of rising geopolitical tensions, Europe’s dependence on a limited number of global technology suppliers poses a growing risk for European businesses. Companies need reliable access to secure, competitive and innovative technologies to remain resilient and globally competitive — from cloud computing and AI to semiconductors, energy digitalisation and critical software.

The Tech Sovereignty Package, including the 🗺️ Strategic Roadmap for Digitalisation and AI in Energy, the 📄 Communication on European Tech Sovereignty, ☁️ the Cloud and AI Development Act, and 💽 Chips Act 2, is an important opportunity to strengthen Europe’s technological and industrial base.

For European businesses, this must translate into:
🏭 Stronger European alternatives
⛓️ More resilient supply chains
🪙 Faster investment
💶 Better access to finance, and
🗃️ A regulatory environment that enables companies to innovate and scale in Europe.

🌏 At the same time, technological sovereignty should not mean cutting off international suppliers. Europe’s objective should be to reduce strategic dependencies, expand choice for businesses and strengthen European capabilities while remaining open, competitive and globally connected.

🏅 📝 Boosting competitiveness through faster permitting

✅ Streamlined procedures, single access points and Industrial Manufacturing Acceleration Areas are important steps towards addressing lengthy and complex permitting procedures.

♟️But to make permitting a real strategic enabler for Europe’s competitiveness, the following priorities must be reflected in the upcoming negotiations:

⚖️ Ensure a coherent permitting framework aligned with existing EU legislation
🏭 Expand accelerated permitting to all industrial transition projects
🔓 Enable a broad and practical approach to baseline permits
✅ Streamline eligibility criteria for Industrial Manufacturing Acceleration Areas
