WELCOME! Come by Monday 22/06 between 17:30–21:30 to hang, land and/or eat something at the pianofabriek.

MATCH TALKS
For people who already know a lot about these topics, as well as for people who are less familiar with them.

Monday programme
18:30 OPENING TALK: Igor from Kif Kif
19:00 TALK II: Paola Verhaert
19:30 TEASER TALK: QoffHearts (5 min)

For our third talk we are pleased to welcome QoffHearts!

QoffHearts is a Belgian drag king obsessed with rollerskating, dancing & economics. From a young age, the phrase that seemed to echo everywhere around her was: “it’s always crisis”, “’t is crisis”, “c’est la crise”.

Coming from the heartland of West Flanders, she witnessed, and at times actively took part in, the idea that work defines identity. Over time, however, her perspective evolved. After studying the work of economists such as Kate Raworth and Thomas Piketty, she became convinced that much of today’s economic discourse is still designed around a traditional nuclear family model, and often fails to reflect the realities and challenges of hyper-diverse societies in 2026.

Through a series of workshops, she invites people on a light-hearted journey to explore their own economic habits. Together, they move through key concepts in an accessible way, ultimately asking how we might begin to deconstruct the current framework, in order to build a more durable society with less suffering, violence & (auto-) exploitation.

This event has been made possible by our free spirited volunteers, collab partners and with the support of the European Union’s Solidarity Corps programme.

Hope to see you all there!

18:30 OPENING TALK: Igor from Kif Kif
19:00 TALK II: Paola Verhaert
19:30 TEASER TALK: QoffHearts (5 min)

For our second talk, we are pleased to have Paola Verhaert join us.

What do we expect from our technological futures? In a technological present marked by structural inequalities and an anti-rights movement, the ability to imagine other technological futures is vital. Technology and future-thinking go hand in hand. Our imagined futures can feature technology as an oppressive force, facilitating constant surveillance and eroding your rights, or as a propeller for change, capable of transforming our lives, relationships, and society.

Neither technology nor future-thinking are neutral – both are deeply political. In this talk, Paola Verhaert will discuss our collective lack of and need for political imaginations about our technological futures. Additionally, she will give a sneak peek into the workshop ‘Imagining, building our technological future(s)’, which she will be hosting at the conference.

Paola Verhaert is a Brussels-based researcher and writer. For the past ten years, her research has focused on the intersection of technology and social justice. In 2024, deBuren and the Hannah Arendt Institute appointed her as a Scherpsteller, giving her the opportunity to critically examine social developments over a two-year period. In November, her first book, Technology Is Political: The Struggle for Digital Justice, was published by Letterwerk.

Her talk is designed both for people who are already familiar with these topics and for those who are curious to explore them further.

This event has been made possible by our free spirited volunteers, collab partners and with the support of the European Union’s Solidarity Corps programme.

Hope to see you all there!

We are pleased to welcome our first speaker: Igor Živković from Kif Kif!

Igor Živković works as a policy officer on digital racism for the Belgian NGO Kif Kif. Kif Kif is a leading antiracist mediaplatform and community of people comitted to fight for antiracism, antidiscrimination, human rights and equality. Igor coordinates and leads the project Kif Kif 2.0, which aims to learn about and challenge the racist impacts of technology. Igor's work focuses on data-driven technologies, AI, Big Tech and surveillance. Through his work, he opposes technosolutionist narratives, in particular in the area of public security and policing. As part of this work, Igor organises workshops on community resistance against opressive technology, and helps organise civil society around such issues. In his opening talk, Igor will dissect five myths surrounding AI to help people better understand the risks and opportunities of this technology, in particular for progressive movements and activists.

This event has been made possible by our free spirited volunteers, collab partners and with the support of the European Union’s Solidarity Corps programme.
