Even though Nueva Pescanova dropped its plans to build the world's first octopus farm, we need an EU-wide ban on octopus farming.

Once again, Europe is being swept by extreme temperatures. As the untold victims of the climate crisis, factory farmed animals suffer immensely when the temperature rises.

They are often:

🐷 Confined in vast numbers with little space
💧 Left without enough water
🏭 Kept in poorly ventilated buildings and transport vehicles where temperatures can soar

Factory farming contributes significantly to climate change.

And as temperatures rise, animals trapped in factory farms suffer even more.

We’ve already seen the consequences.

In 2022, France was swept by heatwaves and wildfires, with temperatures exceeding 40°C. 750,000 chickens died from suffocation and exhaustion. 100 villages ran out of water. 30,000 hectares of forest burned.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

We need a food system that works for animals, people and the planet – one that moves beyond factory farming.

Did you know most dairy calves farmed l in the EU spend their first weeks in small individual pens?

Calves are social, curious animals, but individual pens prevent them from playing, exploring and properly interacting with other calves, causing fear and frustration.

Sent on journeys that can last for weeks.

Forced to travel when very young or pregnant.

Enough is enough.

For too long, billions of animals have suffered in the transport sector: one which is governed by weak EU rules, in desperate need of an update.

The good news is that MEPs are currently negotiating on the measures that should be included in the revised Transport Regulation, giving us a once-in-a-generation opportunity to improve this sector.

The bad news is that the negotiations aren’t going well, putting transported animals at risk of prolonged or even worse suffering.
