The non-profit organisation Close the Gap aims to bridge the digital divide by delivering high-quality, pre-owned computers donated by European companies to schools, universities, microfinance institutes, medical centers and other social projects in developing and emerging countries. Access to ICT is essential in the developing world because it is key to improving a country’s educational and econo

mic prospects. Close the Gap collects decommissioned computers, has the hard disks cleaned and the hardware checked and configured according to the requirements of its end-users. The computers are then shipped to the destination country, where a support and maintenance programme ensures the long-term usability of the computers. Additionally, Close the Gap started up WorldLoop to provide environmentally friendly recycling solution when the equipment has reached the end of its functional life by helping local communities establish an efficient, operational and auto-funded system for e-waste collection and recycling.

Happy World Environment Day! One of this year's messages is a hopeful one: climate impacts are growing, but so are the solutions. We're one of them.

We refurbish IT equipment donated by our partners and give it a second life in schools, clinics, and community centers across 50+ countries. Whatever can't be reused, we recycle responsibly.

Results? ➡️ less e-waste, longer device lifespans, and old tech turned into real opportunity.

Together with Tech Kidz Africa, we brought digital literacy programs inside Shimo La Tewa Women’s Prison in Kenya, helping women gain real, employable skills.

What if the laptop your company no longer needs could become someone’s second chance?

At Europe 2026 in Brussels, our Director of Business Development, Loïc Ganza, shared a powerful message: surplus IT is not waste, it is an opportunity.

During his session, “Your IT’s Second Life: How European Companies Transform Surplus Hardware into CSRD-Proof Impact,” he highlighted how responsible IT reuse helps organisations meet ESG & CSRD goals while creating real impact in communities worldwide.

One story especially stood out.

In Kenya, Maureen, an inmate, gained access to digital skills training through reused technology while in prison. After completing her sentence, she rebuilt her future and today works as a computer & digital literacy trainer.

One device.
One opportunity.
One transformed future.

Because technology is more than hardware.
It is access.
It is dignity.
It is hope.
