At the SSU Summer Camp this week! 🌹🌞 SSU

👉🏼Our Secretary General, Mariam Asghari is joining young social democrats from across Europe for inspiring discussions, new ideas and plenty of conversations about the future.

🫱🏻‍🫲🏼She also had the chance to meet with Stefan Löfven former Prime Minister of Sweden and President of PES.

👉🏼Together, they exchanged on the priorities for the months ahead: making housing affordable, defending democracy, creating quality jobs and opportunities for young people, and building a greener, fairer and more equal Europe.

Because young people deserve a future they can believe in. 🌹

☀️ Not everyone gets a summer break.

👉🏼While some are on holiday, millions of young people are working low-paid jobs, trapped in unpaid internships, or facing uncertainty about whether they’ll be able to continue their education in the autumn.

✊🏼Rest shouldn’t be a privilege. Decent work shouldn’t be optional. Education shouldn’t depend on your income. This summer, and every season, we will keep fighting for quality jobs, paid internships, and accessible public education for every young person.

🌹Because young people deserve decent working conditions. Workers rights are not negotionable.

🔥Europe is Burning and we Need True European Solidarity!

👉🏼From the scorched hillsides of Spain and Portugal to the raging blazes in Southern France, Italy and even uncharacteristically intense fires sweeping through parts of the UK and Ireland, our continent is engulfed in flames.

‼️The climate crisis is no longer a distant warning, it is our present reality. While our communities suffer, brave first responders risk their lives daily on the frontlines to protect homes, ecosystems, and human lives. But as extreme heatwaves become the summer new normal, local and national resources are pushed way beyond their breaking points.

👉🏼Fragmented, national-level responses are no longer enough. Disasters do not stop at national borders, and our protection shouldn’t either.

🌹As Young European Socialists, we demand that the European Union steps up with a efective response. This means transforming the current rescEU framework into a permanent, fully integrated European emergency fleet with air and ground assets ready to deploy wherever needed. It requires recognizing firefighters as climate workers by guaranteeing fair wages, strong protections, and dignified working conditions across the EU.

👉🏼Crucially, we must invest heavily in forest management and prevention so rural communities are not left behind in the green transition, while making big polluters pay for the climate destruction they fuel.

‼️The burning forests of Europe are a wake-up call. We cannot settle for piecemeal relief efforts while our continent scorches. It is time to build a federal, resilient European Civil Protection Force grounded in solidarity, social justice, and immediate action.

🌹🇪🇺Solidarity knows no borders. The time to act is now.

🌹Today we remember the 77 lives stolen in the terrorist attacks in Oslo and Utøya.

👉🏼On July 2011, young people gathered to discuss politicos, democracy, and a better future were targeted by far right extremism. The attack on Utøya was an attack on all those who believe in solidarity, equality and democracy.

❤️‍🩹Fifteen years later, we remember not only the victims, but the survivors, their families and everyone who continues to stand against hatred and violence.

🌹🇪🇺 As young european socialists, we refuse to let fear silence young voices. We remain committed to fighting fascism, racism, and all forms of extremism. Democracy is strongest when young people participate, organise and stand together.

🌹 Never again. Always in our memory.

💪🏼Congratulations to our new Secretary General, Mariam Asghari! 🌹

👉🏼Today, during the YES Bureau meeting, Mariam Asghari (SSU Sweden) was elected as Secretary General of Young European Socialists for the remainder of the 2025–2027 mandate.

🌹Mariam brings extensive experience from our movement, a deep commitment to international solidarity, and a strong dedication to our shared values. We are excited to begin this new chapter together and look forward to working with her to continue building a stronger, more united YES across Europe.

🫰🏼At the same time, we say a heartfelt goodbye to our outgoing Secretary General, Irja Vaateri ❤️

👉🏼Over the past year, Irja has served YES with dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment. Her leadership, hard work, and care for our organisation have strengthened our movement and supported countless young socialists across Europe. Beyond her tireless efforts, she has been a trusted colleague, a friend to many, and an inspiration to our community.

🫶🏼Thank you, Irja, for everything you have given to YES. We are incredibly grateful for your service and wish you every success and happiness in the journey ahead. You will always be part of the YES family. 🌹

⚫️July 1995 is a month the world must never forget.

👉🏼Thousands of innocent lives were taken. An entire generation was torn apart. A city was left frozen in grief.

🌹We remember the victims of the Srebrenica genocide - not only to honor those who were lost, but to reaffirm our commitment that such hatred must never prevail again.

👉🏼Never again. Never forget.

The Paris Court of Appeal has upheld Marine Le Pen’s conviction in the case concerning European parliamentary assistants.

The National Rally (Rassemblement National) has built its narrative on rejecting Europe, yet it has not hesitated to illegally use European taxpayers’ money to fund its party. Hypocrisy has a name, and today, it also has a price.

This conviction—of Marine Le Pen and a dozen RN officials—is a victory for transparency and for those who refuse to let the far right manipulate the very institutions it despises.

For the Young European Socialists, the fight goes on. In the end, it does not matter whether the far-right candidate for the next French presidential election is Marine Le Pen or Jordan Bardella—we must defeat them politically.

Their programme is clear. It falls to our political family to offer a credible alternative to their vision: an alternative based on solidarity, justice, and democracy.

We will never give up.
