Eurodiaconia's French member, Fédération Entraide Protestante, is appealing for your support.

Wildfires are devastating communities across France. Families have been forced to flee their homes, forests have been destroyed, and charities supporting the most vulnerable are responding under increasingly difficult conditions as extreme heat and climate change intensify these disasters.

💡 Europe is working to equip young people with the skills needed to enter the labour market, but is it enough?

On World Youth Skills Day, we are reminded that 11% of young people in Europe are considered NEETs, not in employment, education, or training.

⏳ Without timely support, the risk of becoming long-term unemployed grows greater. This also leads to the erosion of skills, loss of confidence, and weakening of professional networks.

So, how do we tackle this?

☀️ Nothing says dedication like a member visit in 40-degree weather!

One of our founding members from France, , came to visit us in Brussels at the end of June.

🤝And despite the sweltering heat, the day was spent in mutual exchange between our common work areas, especially communication, migration and EU funding.

💡 Last week, two Eurodiaconia secretariat members, Glenis and Donal, visited our sole Latvian member, Diakonija Latvijā - LELB Diakonijas centrs .

Our team got firsthand insight into the valuable work being done in Diaconia Centre Latvia’s head office as well as in three community services; Avots, Gaujaslīči, and Paaudzes.

1️⃣ Avots provides a varied programme of educational, social, and wellbeing activities aimed at supporting community integration and personal development.

2️⃣ Gaujaslīči is a day centre for people experiencing homelessness, providing support through an addiction specialist and a psychologist.

3️⃣ Paaudzes is a multifunctional social services day centre, providing free services for children, adults, and families living in Riga.

While ordinarily the lead up to World Refugee Day is an honouring of those who have had to flee their homes, this year, on June 17th, a chorus of "send them back" rang through the European Parliament.

Nevertheless, our members and us continue to respect the right to seek asylum under the 1951 Refugee Convention.

🔊Yesterday, our Secretary General Heather Roy, on behalf of Conference of European Churches spoke at the European Parliament during the Article 17 Dialogue Seminar.

The topic of discussion was “Health and well-being in the age of artificial intelligence: communities tackling isolation and digital risks”.

🏛️It was hosted by Vice-President of the European Parliament, Antonella Sberna, responsible for Article 17 - Dialogue with religious and philosophical organisations.

Heather shared some insights from our membership who are using AI in their operations to enhance their provision of social services. 💡

What does a high-impact week look like for Eurodiaconia?

In the last 7 days, our team tackled the EU Anti-Racism Strategy from every angle:

✅ We attended the inaugural meeting for the renewal of the Anti-Racism Civil Society Forum hosted by Director for Equality and Non-Discrimination.

✅ We published a Briefing for members on the Anti-Racism Strategy (2026-2030) which was adopted by the European Commission on the 20th of January 2026.

✅We are currently Kirkens Bymisjon and more than 18 of our members in Oslo for a Network Meeting on the topic.

🌿 Real impact only happens where policy meets grassroots.

"We are not victims; we are powerful voices of hope."

📢 On the 27th of May, Fédération de l'Entraide Protestante (FEP), alongside Fédération Protestante de France (FPF), launched their project Femmes Exilées Engagées (Committed Women in Exile), the latest strand of a human corridor that has run between France and Lebanon for nine years.

This project is the first to target a specific group of people: women activists, journalists and association leaders.
