On 8 and 9 May, we held our first General Assembly of 2026 in Tartu, Estonia.
We had excellent discussions with our Estonian hosts, who explained to us how the profession is organised in Estonia.
We reviewed our activities since our previous General Assembly in Dublin.
We organised workshops on:
- the CLGE’s theme for the year: AI
- the future of property monumentation, which resulted in the Tartu Declaration
- our EGS-act project, finalising the questionnaire that will be sent out shortly.
During this meeting, we unanimously decided to elect two new honorary members: Matjaž Grilc and Vladimir Krupa, who have contributed greatly to the CLGE through their work as delegates, President of IG-PARLS and-or President of the CLGE. Through their work and loyalty, they have successfully carried out major projects for our association and helped to preserve the friendly atmosphere that characterises our organisation.
We paid particular attention to the upcoming elections for the FIG President and Vice-President: all European candidates were invited to this General Assembly, all attended, and we thank them warmly. They were able to present their respective programmes and discuss matters with our members: Michalis Kalogiannakis (GR), Mikael Lijle (SE), Peter Ache (DE) and Angel Collado (SP).
We also had time to visit , its university and the observatory used by , the 2012 European Surveyor of the Year, who carried out the measurements for the Struve Arc between Norway and the Black Sea between 1816 and 1855 (2,820 kilometres!).

Our Ex-Board has its first meeting 2026 in Bulgaria.
We started yesterday by meeting and networking with our delegates from the Union and the Chamber of Bulgarian Surveryors.
Today, we are working on our different projects, perspectives and preparation of our next General Assemblies and assignments.

Dear friends, colleagues and partners,
The beginning of each year is traditionally a time for exchanging greetings. It is in this spirit that all the members of the CLGE Ex-Board join me in sending you our best wishes for 2026.
In these very turbulent times around the world, and particularly in Ukraine, we wish to offer strength to all peoples suffering oppression.
Through our profession and, in particular, the skills we have acquired during our studies and experience, we are professionals specialising in the resolution of conflicts and problems that may be perceived as abstract by our interlocutors but which are very concrete for us. To achieve this, we always act with pragmatism, independence and impartiality, with the aim of achieving justice.
That is why it is particularly sad and difficult for me to observe all these phenomena of instability. I would therefore like our profession, in Europe and throughout the world, to join forces and efforts to alleviate as much as possible the difficult situations in which people are suffering, such as wars.
We hope that the advent of new technologies, laws and regulations can be used wisely to improve the human condition and the environment, rather than the opposite.
We send strength and energy to all those who are fighting adversity and injustice. We wish healing to the sick, work to those who are unemployed, and joy to those who are suffering.
I will conclude this message by announcing that the theme for the CLGE in 2026 will be Artificial Intelligence. In this context, we ask anyone who would like to participate in discussions, or anyone who can put us in touch with someone with experience in this field, to contact us. This topic is also being addressed by many of our members and partners, as it is highly topical. We hope to find synergies in these different studies in order to identify tools and methods that will enable us to improve the quality of service for our clients, users and citizens, while respecting the ethical principles that embody the profession of surveyor.
May 2026 be a better year than 2025 for you and your loved ones, in every way. See you soon!

These days, the Croatian Chamber of Chartered Engineers is holding its annual symposium in Bol.
I had the opportunity to present the latest news from the CLGE, a report on our last AG in Dublin and, above all, the Dublin Declaration in connection with our theme for the year: Geodesy matters.
I would like to thank the President of the Chamber, the local organisers and our CLGE delegate, Jelena Rebić Dubravica, who helped me participate in this event.
It was an excellent opportunity for me to exchange and share experiences with my Croatian colleagues.
