RREUSE

RREUSE RREUSE is Europe’s largest network of social enterprises active in the circular economy.

Our

textiles and electronics to tires and paint. Approximately 105,000 employees, volunteers and trainees work within our 27 member networks across 25 European countries and one in the USA. RREUSE promotes a sustainable development model which takes into consideration the following three pillars:

The main activities of our members include:

- collection, sorting and redistribution of textiles and clothing
- collection, repair and reuse of electrical and electronic waste (WEEE), furniture and bulky waste

This was grand! ☘️

RREUSE participated in the opening of the Reuse & Repair Week in Northern Ireland and Ireland. The opening event was nothing less extraordinary than a Pop-up Repair Cafe at Belfast Grand Central Station.

The train station was the perfect venue for bringing reuse and repair into the public eye, even for people who would not actively seek it.

Jana ŽůrkováNIRN - Northern Ireland Resources NetworkCommunity Resources Network Ireland (CRNI)Beneath the departures and arrivals board, repairers welcomed anyone who brought treasured items, mending clothes and bikes on the spot. Each fix sparked a brief conversation - how to repair things and why it matters. It was people’s emotional attachment and common sense (or “using your loaf,” as they say in Northern Ireland) that drove them to choose repair over buying new.

Our Deputy Director, Jana Žůrková, joined the event to show support from our European network and learn from this good practice. It was an honour to meet the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs, Andrew Muir, who not only opened the event but also actively took part and learned how to fix clothes.

Reuse & Repair Week ran more than 50 events across Northern Ireland and Ireland — likely the first of its kind in Europe. The campaign was launched by NIRN - Northern Ireland Resources Network, a member of our network, and this year received backing from Community Resources Network Ireland CRNI, another RREUSE member.

As RREUSE turns 25, we are looking ahead and releasing our new strategy 2026-2030 “Advancing a job-rich and inclusive circular Europe”, which sets out our vision for a Europe where:

🔄 circular social enterprises are recognised as key economic players;
👩‍🔧 reuse and repair are part of everyday life;
🤝 inclusion is at the core of the circular economy;
🌍️ strong national ecosystems exist in every region;
📈 collaboration, innovation, and knowledge-sharing drive continuous improvement.

Ambitious? Yes. We refuse a version of the circular economy that benefits only a few, leaves the most vulnerable people and communities on the margins and does not fundamentally change our production and consumption model.

Our strategy sets out how we will work over the coming years to turn this vision into reality by building a strong and cohesive network, strengthening capacity, innovation and evidence, and shaping policy, visibility, and ecosystems.

How many ways can you repurpose furniture and mattresses?

Many, in fact.

14 social enterprises across Europe are demonstrating innovative solutions to extending the lifespan of bulky waste, and creating inclusive jobs while doing so. From kitchen removals and resale in Ireland, mattress dismantling and recycling in France and upcycling and resale of office furniture in Belgium, social enterprises are uniquely positioned to tackle the growing challenge of furniture and mattress waste, while addressing social exclusion.

This , we are taking the long view and publishing the RREUSE Strategy 2026–2030: Advancing a job-rich and inclusive circular Europe.

Our conviction is clear: the circular economy must deliver social value alongside environmental outcomes.

By 2030, we want to see a Europe where circular social enterprises are recognised as key economic players, and where reuse and repair are simply part of how we make policy, do business and live our daily lives. The circular economy will be built on social inclusion, backed by strong national ecosystems in every region and fuelled by collaboration, innovation and knowledge-sharing that drive ongoing progress.

To achieve this vision, our strategy focuses on three interconnected pillars:

🤝 Community – We will continue building a strong, cohesive network where members share knowledge, align strategies and shape common positions, strengthening resilience, legitimacy in policy work and collective action.
👩‍🎓 Academy – We will keep strengthening capacity, innovation and evidence through training, peer learning, tools and research, ensuring that our sector is not only adapting to change but shaping it.
📢 Outreach – We will continue working to shape policy, visibility and supportive ecosystems, so that the impact of social circular enterprises is recognised and they thrive in an enabling environment where the circular economy is socially anchored.

This strategy is both a commitment and an invitation to join us in building an inclusive circular economy that benefits both people and the environment.

Every year, more than 250,000 public buyers make decisions that determine how
taxpayers’ money is spent.

From construction to healthcare to food, those decisions amount to 2.5 trillion
annually and shape which products are rewarded across the Single Market.

RREUSE, together with over 50 organisations across industry, civil society, and public buyers, is calling on the European Commission to put forward a Public Procurement Act that delivers lasting benefits for the economy, society, and the environment.

RREUSE recently joined the WISESHIFT Horizon project Reading Club to present policy‑oriented research on EU policies and just transitions, and to take part in a rich discussion with the consortium.

These Reading Club meetings are a great chance for all partners, from researchers to EU‑level social economy networks, to share resources and ideas, and to strengthen the collective work behind WISESHIFT.

Together, we aim to empower work integration social enterprises as key drivers of inclusive and sustainable socio‑economic transitions from reuse, repair, and recycling to agri‑food and care.

When Ukrainian refugees arrived in the Czech Republic in 2022, the Southern Bohemian Furniture Bank went from supporting 60 people a month to 350.

How? By not doing it alone.

As Zuzana, Vice Chair and Executive Director of Reuse federace, puts it: "What we learnt in times of crisis is the importance of collaboration."

Reuse Federace, a Czech federation of furniture banks and reuse centres connecting with NGOs and municipal partners, shows what's possible when organisations collaborate for a common cause - furniture gets to the people who need it, faster and at greater scale.

When supported by the right policies, Work Integration Social Enterprises (WISEs) can become real engines of social and economic transformation. This is, in a nutshell, the message stemming from the WISESHIFT project's first policy brief.

The brief shares important findings and practical examples from across Europe, and offers clear recommendations for policymakers. 💡

One of these recommendations focuses on the need to create an enabling regulatory and policy framework by:

- Ensuring co-decision with WISEs representatives and workers.
- Supporting regulatory reforms through country-specific recommendations.

In the countries studied, policy and legal recognition of WISEs through regulation has led to both benefits and drawbacks. To ensure quality measures are implemented, it is very important to involve the actors and collect data.

From neighbourhood workshops to regional partnerships, social enterprises prove that repair can be, and must be, a real circular economy engine.

Through B2B and public‑private partnerships, they:
- Support companies with repair, refurbishment, and preparing for reuse.
- Help public bodies cut waste and procurement costs by extending product lifetimes.
- Deliver social impact through local, inclusive green jobs.

Yet their potential is still far from fully recognised and realised. To scale these partnerships, we need an EU framework that rewards repair, reuse, and preparing for reuse in public procurement and EPR schemes and encourages businesses to choose repair partnerships over linear models.

Across our continent, RREUSE social enterprise members are turning repair into a local, social, and scalable reality!

Through consumer-facing repair services and dedicated repair infrastructure, such as repair cafés, tool libraries, and community repair centres, they not only fix products, they bring people together around hands-on circular solutions, building local repair culture and skills.

Beyond direct services, RREUSE members are key players in preparing for reuse and refurbishment. While not every reused product needs repair, it is often a crucial step in giving items a second life.
