FICAC strengthens its global presence in London

The World Federation of Consuls recently held high-level meetings in London with three prestigious institutions — the Commonwealth Secretariat, the International Maritime Organization, and the House of Lords.

The FICAC delegation, comprising Vice-President Hon. Asif Chowdhury, President Emeritus Hon. Aykut Eken, and Board of Directors Members Hon. Gonul Eken and Hon. Alessandro Giuliani, represented the Federation with great distinction throughout the visits.

FICAC was honored to be received by H.E. Shirley Botchwey, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, for meaningful dialogue on diplomacy and international cooperation. The delegation then visited the International Maritime Organization, where they were warmly welcomed by Mrs. Azara Prempeh, Director of the Administrative Division, to explore collaboration between consular networks and the IMO's global mandate. The week concluded with a memorable visit to Lord Lingfield at the historic House of Lords, featuring a personal guided tour, engaging discussions, and a warm tea gathering.

These visits mark an exciting step forward in FICAC's growing role on the world stage.

In Memoriam of Hon. Costas Lefkaritis

It is with profound sadness and deep respect that the World Federation of Consuls (FICAC) announces the passing of Hon. Costakis Lefkaritis, its Vice President Emeritus, whose remarkable journey spanned nearly three decades of transformative leadership in international diplomacy.

Since 1997, Hon. Lefkaritis has served as the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Zambia in Cyprus, maintaining strong diplomatic relations between the two nations. Through his tenure, he has demonstrated exceptional skill in fostering bilateral connections and promoting cross-cultural understanding, exemplifying the core values of consular service and international partnership.

Recognized for his exceptional acumen and integrity, Hon. Lefkaritis rose through the ranks of the Cyprus Consular Corps. He served as Vice President in 2005 before being elected President in 2007. His visionary stewardship earned him renewed confidence with re-election in 2010, an honor reflecting the profound respect he commanded among his peers. His tenure revitalized the consular community and set new standards for excellence in diplomatic service.
Since 2006, Hon. Lefkaritis has been an integral member of FICAC's Board of Directors, serving as Vice President for ten years - from 2012 to 2022, and as Vice - President Emeritus from 2022. His strategic vision, measured judgment, and tireless advocacy shaped FICAC's development during a transformative period in international relations. His contributions extended far beyond administrative roles; he was a trusted mentor and visionary whose counsel strengthened the Federation's foundations.

Demonstrating his versatility and continued commitment to leadership, Hon. Lefkaritis was elected Executive President of Petrolina in June 2018, bringing his considerable business acumen and proven management expertise to the energy sector. His educational foundation in Business Administration equipped him to navigate complex commercial landscapes with the same grace and effectiveness he brought to diplomatic affairs.
Hon. Lefkaritis understood that true diplomacy is about human connection, mutual respect, and the pursuit of shared prosperity. His decades of service created networks of trust and collaboration that will endure long after his passing.
The FICAC Board of Directors and the global consular community extend their deepest condolences to Hon. Lefkaritis's family, friends, and colleagues. His wisdom, generosity of spirit, and unwavering commitment to international cooperation will be profoundly missed.

Hon. Costakis Lefkaritis's contributions to consular diplomacy and international relations will endure as a testament to his professional excellence and dedication. His legacy transcends organizations and borders - it lives on in every relationship he nurtured, every consensus he built, and the institutional strength he helped establish at FICAC and within the Cyprus Consular Corps.
His passing represents a significant loss to the international diplomatic community. The standards he set and the networks he built will continue to guide and inspire future generations of consular professionals.
May his memory be honored through the continued advancement of the diplomatic ideals he championed throughout his distinguished career.
