EuChemS warmly congratulates Professor Ulrich Schubert on the occasion of his 80th birthday.

The symposium “From Molecule to Material”, held at Technische Universität Wien, brought together the chemistry community to celebrate Professor Schubert’s outstanding scientific achievements and his lasting contribution to European chemistry.

On behalf of EuChemS, Professor Wolfram Koch, EuChemS Vice-President, congratulated Professor Schubert and highlighted his important service as EuChemS President from 2012 to 2014, including his role in strengthening the organisation’s governance.

We wish Professor Schubert continued health and success.

How can chemistry contribute to a more sustainable and responsible future?
To explore this question, join us during the 10th EuChemS Chemistry Congress (ECC10) in Antwerp for the workshop:

🌍 “Responsible Chemistry Needs a Global Inclusive Approach”
📅 14 July 2026
🕐 12:45–13:45

Can chemistry be truly responsible without embracing diverse global perspectives? The challenges we face - sustainability, safety, and resource use - are inherently global, and so are their consequences.

The discussion will feature:
🔹Angela Agostiano, President of the European Chemical Society
🔹Rigoberto Hernandez, President of the American Chemical Society
🔹Ruth Bieringer, President of the German Chemical Society (GDCh)
🔹Gill Reid, Former President of the Royal Society of Chemistry

This workshop explores why diversity of perspectives - gender-related, but not only - is not just about representation. It is about strengthening how we define problems, interpret uncertainty associated with risks, and anticipate impact.
Join the conversation on how inclusive thinking, listening, and discussion can lead to better, more responsible chemistry.

Let’s take a look back at the Historical Landmark Award Ceremony, which took place on May 11th in Warsaw.

The commemorative plaque was unveiled at the Maria Skłodowska-Curie Museum in Warsaw - the birthplace of this extraordinary scientist.

The ceremony featured speeches by Barbara Gołębiowska, Director of the Museum, Robert Pietrzak, President of the Polish Chemical Society, Angela Agostiano, EuChemS President, Izabela Nowak, former President of the Polish Chemical Society, as well as a representative of the City of Warsaw.

Guests also enjoyed a concert featuring mainly Polish and French music, offering an artistic reflection on international cultural influences.

Later, the EuChemS delegation was taken on a guided tour through the Museum and Warsaw Old Town - an inspiring opportunity to learn more about Maria Skłodowska-Curie’s remarkable life and legacy.
