Last Friday, December 19th, a large and festive gathering took place AGAINST the closure of Park Ouest. More than 1,500 people came out to say loud and clear that, in their view, the park must remain open.
The petition launched in the neighbourhood has already gathered more than 1,900 signatures. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to this incredible program, a reflection of life in our neighbourhood: nail forging, t-shirt printing, a krisis-wall, publications on the fight for the right to the city, couscous for lunch, then fries, fried rice, pancakes, and sausage roll. Tai chi, skateboarding, basketball, uno, ping-pong, face painting, a funky DJ for a sing-along on a cuistax, a children’s march, a dub sound system, an “Ibiza” vibe to Gims music. Or simply the joy of gathering around a fire. And to finish in style: the best brass band and the most beautiful fireworks!
This mobilization has already started to shift things. We have since received confirmation that a temporary solution has been found: thanks to an additional round of funding, the park can remain open (provisionally) until the end of February.
This means... We will continue, together with the neighbourhood residents, to mobilise until we secure a guarantee for a permanent solution. Because the end of February... is tomorrow.
