Another year, another STYPA has come and gone but the journey has also just began! Earlier this month (July 10-12) Amina and Anastasia spent three days in Brussels exploring and developing their knowledge in health literacy and represented the voice of the !!!
Covering topics including:
☑️what health literacy means for patients and advocacy;
☑️how to recognise and respond to health misinformation;
☑️the relationship between health literacy and European health policy;
☑️how to communicate health information clearly, accurately and ethically;
☑️and how to translate these skills into practical advocacy through simulations and the development of personal advocacy plans.
On behalf of the EPF Youth Group, they had the opportunity to share the value and meaning of why STYPA is so important to young patients and the importance of the young patient voice. As well as sharing who we are and the projects we have been involved in, planned and completed, and our upcoming projects and plans!
Every year we have seen STYPA grow and grow and develop in topics, but what has always remained is the strong sense of community and connection felt by everyone there. From listening to the incredible and inspiring stories of patient advocates, to the knowledgeable trainers and speakers using their practice and vulnerabilities to connect us deeper with ourselves and our advocacy journeys, and of course whilst making memories for life through sharing fun moments between us patients and patient advocates. Thank you to for this incredible training opportunity and we are excited to continue to each work on our projects that matter to us as patient advocates and transfer all that we learned here to the Youth Group!
