Chinese New Year 2026

The Year of the Horse symbolizes energy, movement and renewal.

At the EU–China Film Festival, we believe cinema moves across borders — carrying stories, ideas and encounters between cultures.

From Brussels to Beijing, we look forward to another year of meaningful exchanges through film.

Happy Chinese New Year.

In 2026, we remain present.

This past year,
we did not rush to draw conclusions,
nor did we seek answers for everything that occurred.

The world is complex,
and understanding does not always arrive on time.

Images often come before language.
And we chose, consistently, to remain present—
present where watching takes place,
present in those moments that have not yet been fully spoken.

As the world continues to accelerate,
to remain present is, in itself, a position.

Images are not answers.
They are the way we stay connected to the world.

The future remains uncertain.
And precisely because of that,
it is still worth watching—carefully, attentively.

Goodbye, 2025.
In 2026, we remain present.

Meet+ Youth at Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB)

The EU–China Film Festival brought its Meet+ Youth program to the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) for a special screening and dialogue session.

Three short films — I Wanna Fly, Burning River, and the classic Chinese animation Little Tadpoles Looking for Their Mother — were presented to ULB students from the Faculty of Letters, Translation and Communication.

Young filmmakers from China and students from ULB shared an inspiring conversation on creativity, storytelling, and how film can connect people beyond language.

Special thanks to Zhengyi Zhao and the Chinese Section at ULB for their support and collaboration.
Moments like these remind us that cinema is not only art — it is dialogue, curiosity, and understanding.

🎞️ EU–China Film Festival 2025 continues across Brussels until October 26.

My Father’s Son

EU–China Film Festival 2025 · Closing Film

A father, a son, and the silence that binds them.
Through fragments of memory and unspoken emotion, My Father’s Son traces a journey of reconciliation — between generations, between choices, between the past and what remains.

As the closing film of the 7th EU–China Film Festival, it brings tenderness to the screen where words fail, and reminds us that family is not only inherited — it is learned.

🎨 The Art of Chinese Animation · Tradition Reimagined

As part of the EU–China Film Festival, a special retrospective brings classic Chinese animation back to the big screen.
The showcase features five landmark works — The Legend of Sealed Book, Havoc in Heaven, Little Tadpoles Looking for Their Mother, The Shepherd’s Flute, and The Deer's Bell.

Each film represents a chapter in the evolution of Chinese animation —
blending myth, ink painting, and poetry into a unique visual language that continues to inspire generations.

When these timeless works light up the screen in Brussels,
they remind us that animation is not only for children,
but a living art form that bridges imagination and culture.

🎬 Meet China · Brussels
A dialogue through film and imagination.

We were delighted to host the “Meet China” International Communication Section of the 7th EU–China Film Festival at the China Cultural Center in Brussels.

The event brought together award-winning creators from the EU–China Youth Film Festival, along with media professionals from Xinhua News Agency, CGTN, Phoenix TV, and China Daily, for an afternoon of screenings, dialogue, and cultural exchange.

Filmmakers, artists, and young audiences from across Europe and China shared stories and perspectives — exploring how cinema continues to connect cultures through emotion, curiosity, and creativity.

Thank you to everyone who joined us.

TRAPPED — When the Wind Blows, Survival Begins

Set in the remote northwest of China in 1995, Trapped unfolds on the eve of the country’s gun-control reform — a town isolated by a sandstorm, its silence shattered by a brutal heist.

Three policemen and a retired soldier are caught in a violent stand-off with dozens of armed criminals. Yet beyond the gunfire, the film questions what survival means in a place where systems falter and trust erodes.

For European audiences, Trapped is more than a thriller — it’s a psychological portrait of fear, courage, and the fragile boundary between order and chaos.

Georgia — A Window into Identity and Belonging

At the opening night of the EU–China Film Festival 2025, we present Georgia, a film that weaves the story of a mixed-heritage child seeking roots between two worlds.
Directed by Qiao Mei, Georgia invites us into questions of belonging, identity, and the tension between home and distance.

In a European context, the film raises resonances: what does it mean to be “in between”? How do families, communities, and identities negotiate hybridity?
Join us for the screening — and stay for a post-film dialogue with the director, who will reflect on cultural translation, memory, and cinematic empathy.
