Interesting piece of CEPS, the Centre for European Policy Studies, on yet another element of the EU selling out on its own values in asylum and migration policy - by entering into cooperation with the Taliban.

On 12 May 2026, the European Commission confirmed that it had sent a formal invitation to the Taliban in Kabul proposing a ‘technical-level meeting’. This is a

EU Commission report on state of implementation of asylum and migration pact by member states shows lots of "unfinished business" - 5 weeks before implementation is due.

CCME is concerned that with these delays, provisions of the pact which are in general problematic, will even more contribute to the vulnerability of those seeking safety and protection in Europe.

Report on the state of play on the implementation of the Pact on Migration and Asylum.

CCME member, the Dutch Council of Churches (RvK), published a report on the churches and their positions on extreme right thoughts.

The report received great attention.

It among other things recommends to:
• seek conversation within the churches about the changed societal situation and do so in dialogue
• speak the Church's own language
• focus on long paths of discipleship
• ensure a careful initiation into Christian thought for (new) church members and, based on our witness, take action against members who persistently express racist views or even participate in violence
• Protest strongly against government actions that are anti-democratic and/or contrary to the rule of law
• Preach and pray for Christian conduct; do not preach and pray against people and parties
• promote contact between Christians with a migration background and those with a Dutch background
• promote interreligious cooperation nationally and locally

The CCME ExCom meeting in Bucharest was an excellent opportunity to learn about the activities of CCME member AIDRom and its respective member churches.
Fr Michael Tița from the Romanian Orthodox Church as Vice-president of AIDRom welcomed ExCom along with AIDRom executiv secretary Katalin Zsoltani. Both conveyed the greetings of AIDRom president Bishop Reinhart Guib of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Romania.
Fr Ciprian Ion Ionita presented the activities of the Romanian Orthodox Church for those displaced from Ukraine. ExCom also learnt about the activities of the different other Protestant and Orthodox member churches of AIDRom with and for refugees and migrants. It met with representatives of important Institutional partners of AIDRom like UNHCR and IOM.
