European Liver Patients' Association

European Liver Patients' Association ELPA’s vision is that all liver patients are diagnosed in time, are treated with respect, and have equal access to the best standard of medical care.

The European Liver Patients' Association - ELPA emerged from a desire amongst European liver patient groups to share their experiences of the often very different approaches adopted in different countries. In June 2004, 13 patient groups from 10 European and Mediterranean Basin countries met to create the association. ELPA was formally launched in Paris on April 14th 2005 during the annual confere

nce of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) and now has 23 members from 19 countries.

🇩🇪 Day 3 in Münster, Germany 🇩🇪

What an incredible and emotional day on the .

Hundreds of people stood patiently in a long queue—some waiting more than 90 minutes—for one simple reason: they wanted to know the truth about their liver health. That commitment sends a powerful message. People care about their health, and when given the opportunity, they are willing to take action.

Behind every person in line is a story, a family, and a future worth protecting.

Together with clinicians, researchers, stakeholders, and patient advocates, we are bringing awareness, education, and access directly to the community. We are helping people understand that fatty liver disease is closely connected to obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and stroke, and that early detection can change lives.

Today was not just about screening—it was about hope, empowerment, and prevention. The extraordinary turnout proves that public health matters, that education works, and that people want to take control of their future.

Every person screened is one more step toward preventing serious disease.
Every conversation is an opportunity to save a life.
Every stop of this journey brings us closer to a healthier Europe.

The line was long, but the message was even stronger: prevention starts today, not tomorrow.

FROM BRUSSELS TO MÜNSTER — EUROPE IS TAKING ACTION FOR !

What an extraordinary June for the European Liver Patients' Association (ELPA)!

We began the month at the European Liver Prevention Village in front of the European Parliament, under the patronage of the European Parliament and President Roberta Metsola, bringing prevention, awareness, and life-saving screening directly to citizens.

✅ Liver elastography screening in two mobile units
✅ Diabetes checks
✅ Cardiovascular and blood pressure assessments
✅ Hepatitis B & C testing
✅ BMI measurements
✅ Cancer prevention education
✅ High-Level Policy Event at the European Parliament

And now, we continue the journey in Münster, with activities across four different locations, reaching communities through innovative events, screenings, education, and a dynamic social media campaign.

This is more than a campaign.

This is a movement.

A movement uniting patient advocates, scientific experts, academic institutions, researchers, healthcare professionals, policymakers, stakeholders, ELPA members 🇪🇺🇺🇳, and—most importantly—patients themselves.

Together, we are proving that prevention saves lives. Together, we are bringing liver health to the heart of Europe. Together, we are breaking barriers, raising awareness, and ensuring that no one is left behind.

Never before have so many voices come together with one common goal:

💚 Early Detection
💚 Prevention
💚 Better Care
💚 Better Lives

The European Liver Screening Tour is not just travelling across cities—it is creating a future where liver disease is detected earlier, treated better, and prevented whenever possible.

Münster, we are here.
Europe, we are moving forward.
The future of liver health starts now
Together we are stronger 💪

From Detection to Care: Delivering Integrated Solutions."

A special thank you to the distinguished speakers:

🔹 Jana Havrdová – Department for the Coordination of Intergovernmental Activities and Support for Prevention and Health, Office of the Minister for Sport, Prevention and Health, Czech Republic

🔹 Prof. Gabriele G. Schiattarella – Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany

🔹 Yúmar Hidalgo – PM & International Affairs Coordinator, Federación Española del Hígado (FEH), Spain

Their insights highlighted a crucial message: early detection only creates value when it is connected to effective, continuous, and integrated care. Through collaboration between policymakers, healthcare professionals, researchers, and patient organizations, we can transform healthcare systems and improve outcomes for patients across Europe.

Together, we are moving from discussion to action, from detection to care, and from vision to impact.
