Youth for Exchange and Understanding International

Youth for Exchange and Understanding International Youth for Exchange and Understanding International (YEU) In 1989 we were recognized as a member association of the European Coordination Bureau (E.C.B.).

Youth for Exchange and Understanding International (YEU) is an International Youth Organisation founded in Strasbourg in 1986 by a group of 120 young people from 11 different countries. Today we are a member of the European Youth Forum which is the independent platform for INGYOs and NYCs in Europe. We have young people from over 30 countries from across Europe and Africa involved in our activitie

s. As an international network, we are the representative body of our members in contacts with the institutions and partners in the youth field. YEU is run by young people for young people by means of a democratic structure and our members are mainly working on a voluntary base. The limit age to participate in our activities is 30 years but the majority of participants are under the age of 25. It is young people who decide about activities of the organisation, define the strategies and implement the action plans, run the organization and ultimately evaluate it. It is important to note that most young people in YEU are actively involved in other aspects of civil society, frequently establishing links between the Member Organizations and the local, regional and national institutions, other youth organisations and the community in general, extending the participation in the international organisation to the local dimension. Today, YEU is a network of 38 youth organisations across the 30 European and African countries.

🎉 39 years ago today, on 15 June 1987, Erasmus was born!

Erasmus+ is much more than the study abroad programme you think you know 🌍✨

What started as a small university exchange initiative has grown into a programme that today reaches young people, schools, youth organisations and communities across Europe 🇪🇺

Watch the video to find out where the name “Erasmus” comes from!

To keep this success story alive, Erasmus+ needs real investment. As the EU negotiates its next long-term budget (MFF), we are joining forces with our partners to call for a fivefold increase in funding, one that reflects inflation, growing demand and Europe’s ambitions for the future.

More Erasmus+ means More Europe 💙

YEU at the Virtual Feels Real Conference. 🚀

On Friday 5th June YEU was invited to attend the Virtual Feels Real Conference by CONNECT International and Out of the Box International.

The Virtual Feels Real project empowers adult educators with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to prevent and respond to cyberbullying, discrimination, and online harm affecting migrant and minority communities. 🌐

Our two volunteers followed a presentation of the project objectives and tools developed so far, as well as a panel discussion: “Different Screens, Same Issues”.

Thank you so much Connect International and Out of the Box International for this meaningful afternoon and this opportunity to connect with likeminded youth workers and civil society representatives. 🤝

🚲 Happy World Bicycle Day! 🌍

🚴Today, on World Bicycle Day, YEU celebrates the bicycle as a simple yet powerful tool for sustainable mobility, inclusion, health, and active citizenship.💡♻️

🚲Since January 2025, YEU has been proudly of a two-year project untitled "Bicycle Culture as Youth´s Civic and sustainabLe Empowerment" , bringing together young people and youth workers from Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Belgium, and Poland. 🚴‍♂️ 🛣️

🚲So far, the project has delivered a youth exchange in Spain, a training course in France and three volunteering activities, all contributing to stronger youth advocacy for cycling across Europe.

🏘️🤝The journey continues with Bike Routes, the next phase of the project, during which all partner organisations will organise local cycling activities and workshops in their respective countries, creating new opportunities for young people to explore sustainable mobility, develop advocacy skills, and engage with their communities. Stay tuned!📢

🚴‍♀️ By promoting cycling as a slow, sustainable, and accessible mode of transport, we are helping young people build greener communities and become active agents of change.🌱💚

☕️Join us for a Coffee with Kim van Sparrentak!

On June 9th at 14:00 CET on Zoom, we will have the pleasure of a discussion with MEP Kim van Sparrentak (), co-president of the LGBTQIA Intergroup at the European Parliament!

In addition to being a fierce advocate for LGBTQIA rights, our guest has experience working with digital and tech policy (fighting who she calls the “nasty tech bros”), a highly important issue in tomorrow’s world.

As an MEP, she sits in committees that are of great concern for young people, like the committee on employment and social affairs or on the “democratic shield,” which is why her perspective will be very interesting!

If you are interested in learning more about how the European Parliament works, or if you would like to ask questions about having your voice heard as LGBTQIA activists, please join us for a Coffee With Kim van Sparrentak!

Last week, as part of the ART4Union project’s 3-day capacity-building training series, our senior trainer Aga delivered another one-day advocacy training, this time in Lisbon, Portugal. The session was hosted by our Portuguese partner .eu. 🎨

Throughout the training, Aga guided participants through practical sessions on designing effective advocacy campaigns, engaging stakeholders, and using art as a tool for social change, with a particular focus on influencing local and regional policies.

A big thank you to our partner and to all the dedicated youth workers who took part in the session!

This training marks the final session of this phase of the project.

Stay tuned to discover what’s coming next for ART4Union!

🎙️Episode 4 of YEU Podcast season 6 is out!

In this episode we had the pleasure to interview one of our PET senior trainer, Aga Byrczek. She led 2 Art4U training in April and in May. In this episode, she allows us to discover more on the importance of this project. 🎨

Artvocacy for the (U)nion project, also called Art4U started in January 2026 and will last for a year. It is funded by the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) programme of the European Union. The goal of the project is to develop citizen engagement, enhance the capacity of civil society organizations, and promote EU values through the use of artivism and policy advocacy. YEU is a project partner in charge of advocacy and policy expertise and our trainers already led training in Athens in Greece, in Katowice in Poland and in Lisbon in Portugal. 🇬🇷 🇵🇱 🇵🇹

Join us to learn about Aga’s journey as a trainer in education, diversity, body discrimination and neurodivergency. We dived deeper in the Art4U project impact on civil society organizations by learning new perspectives on how to run an advocacy campaign and connecting participants to foster mutual support. To conclude, she emphasizes the importance for citizens on knowing when and how to act in front of injustice. 🫂🤝

A new episode of the YEU PET Campaign 2026! ✨

This time, YEU PET Member Tavares Ferreira took on a key role as facilitator at the first International Activity of the PoEM project and YEU 44th Convention in Izmir, Türkiye. 🇹🇷

Together with youth workers and young participants from 10 YEU Member Organisations, Tavares guided a five-day Co-Creation Lab exploring emotional wellbeing through artistic methodologies like ebru, storytelling, and collage. 🎨🧘

The lab will result in 10 local community initiatives designed by participants to address emotional wellbeing challenges in their own countries, a truly impactful outcome made possible by dedicated facilitation! 💫

A big thank you to Tavares for the incredible contribution to this project! 💪🌍
