Youth for Exchange and Understanding International

Youth for Exchange and Understanding International (YEU) In 1989 we were recognized as a member association of the European Coordination Bureau (E.C.B.).

Youth for Exchange and Understanding International (YEU) is an International Youth Organisation founded in Strasbourg in 1986 by a group of 120 young people from 11 different countries. Today we are a member of the European Youth Forum which is the independent platform for INGYOs and NYCs in Europe. We have young people from over 30 countries from across Europe and Africa involved in our activities. As an international network, we are the representative body of our members in contacts with the institutions and partners in the youth field. YEU is run by young people for young people by means of a democratic structure and our members are mainly working on a voluntary base. The limit age to participate in our activities is 30 years but the majority of participants are under the age of 25. It is young people who decide about activities of the organisation, define the strategies and implement the action plans, run the organization and ultimately evaluate it. It is important to note that most young people in YEU are actively involved in other aspects of civil society, frequently establishing links between the Member Organizations and the local, regional and national institutions, other youth organisations and the community in general, extending the participation in the international organisation to the local dimension. Today, YEU is a network of 38 youth organisations across the 30 European and African countries.

✨ YEU was at the EU Youth Conference!

🇮🇪🇪🇺 This week, our president, Yağmur Aşıla, represented YEU in Dublin, where hundreds of leading voices in the youth field gathered to work together on the topic of "Information and Constructive Dialogue", the Youth Goal #4 and helping shape the next generation of European Youth Goals.

🍀🤝 This event marks the start of the 12th cycle of policy discussion at this level, and we are excited to be a part of these important working groups to highlight the experiences of our MOs and young people.

We had an amazing time having a Coffee With Nika Kovač!

We feel very privileged to have hosted Nika, who shared with us some insights from her work creating and leading one of the most well-known European Citizen Initiatives: My Voice My Choice.

Our wonderful guest discussed some of the challenges that come with building such a campaign, as well as some of the positive impact she saw in her community.

It was truly a pleasure to hear from such an influential and active feminist activist who demonstrates day after day that change is possible.

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us, and thank you to Nika and her team!

Today the European Week of Sport comes to an end! 🏅

For seven days, people of all ages across Europe got moving, trying new activities, joining local events and celebrating the power of sport to keep us healthy, bring communities together and promote inclusion.

Through our BICYCLE project, we keep highlighting the value of cycling not only as a sport, but also as a tool to build civic engagement and stronger connection to the places we live in. 🚴‍♂️

⭐️ ☕️ Coffee With Aleksandra Maldžiski in the Spanish sun!

🌍 Aleksandra is the coordinator of this year’s University on Youth and Development (UYD), and we had the honour of having her as a guest on our special edition of our “Coffee With...” series.

🤝 YEU was a partner organisation in the UYD, and we were delighted to talk to the people who made this event so special! Aleksandra is a key actor in the UYD: as the Coordinator, she brings her background in youth work and activism to her position in the North South Centre in the Council of Europe. Together, we evoked this year’s theme: “AI, Youth and Peace,” and learned about Alexsandra’s professional path.

Under the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU, young people and policymakers meet at the EU Youth Conference from 27 to 30 September 2026 to discuss Youth Goal #4: Information and Constructive Dialogue. 🇪🇺

From trustworthy information to intergenerational dialogue, young voices will help shape the future of EU youth policy. 📣

ARTvocacy for the EU has officially kicked off!

From 1 to 4 September, our Fundraising and Project Officer represented YEU in Tirana, Albania, at the Kick-Off Transnational Project Meeting of ARTvocacy for the EU, hosted by our partners at Center ACT for Society.

Together, we mapped out the project timeline and activities, validated roles and responsibilities, reviewed the budget and reporting requirements, and planned the next steps of implementation. The second day focused on shaping the project's identity, building our communication and dissemination strategy and setting up the project management system, before closing with team building activities that brought the group even closer together.

A heartfelt thank you to our hosts for their warm hospitality and to all partners for the energy, ideas and commitment they brought to the table!

Planning, reflecting and moving forward together! 💙

From 12-15 September, the YEU Governing Board came together with our Secretary General for several productive days of discussions, planning and reflection.
We reviewed updates from the YEU Office, our Working Groups and working methods, and started shaping our 2027 priorities and WorkPlan.

A major milestone was also the Board’s final review and approval of the updated YEU PET Guidelines, following extensive work by our Educational WG, as well as discussions on the next PET Mandate and future calls.

We also looked at membership and member engagement, policy and advocacy work, YEU’s external representation and cooperation, and preparations for our Winter General Assembly.

Alongside our meetings, we were happy to take part in UYD, connecting our internal planning with the wider work of our network. 🌍

A busy few days, but an important moment to reflect on where we are and prepare YEU for what comes next! 💫
