Youth for Exchange and Understanding International

Youth for Exchange and Understanding International (YEU) In 1989 we were recognized as a member association of the European Coordination Bureau (E.C.B.).

Youth for Exchange and Understanding International (YEU) is an International Youth Organisation founded in Strasbourg in 1986 by a group of 120 young people from 11 different countries. Today we are a member of the European Youth Forum which is the independent platform for INGYOs and NYCs in Europe. We have young people from over 30 countries from across Europe and Africa involved in our activitie

s. As an international network, we are the representative body of our members in contacts with the institutions and partners in the youth field. YEU is run by young people for young people by means of a democratic structure and our members are mainly working on a voluntary base. The limit age to participate in our activities is 30 years but the majority of participants are under the age of 25. It is young people who decide about activities of the organisation, define the strategies and implement the action plans, run the organization and ultimately evaluate it. It is important to note that most young people in YEU are actively involved in other aspects of civil society, frequently establishing links between the Member Organizations and the local, regional and national institutions, other youth organisations and the community in general, extending the participation in the international organisation to the local dimension. Today, YEU is a network of 38 youth organisations across the 30 European and African countries.

In March 2026, YEU hosted a transnational training course in Brussels for our EU co-funded Erasmus+ project, LED – Youth Digital Leaders.

We caught up with our Youth Digital Leaders to discuss the future of digital youth work. In our latest interview, one youth worker shares her key advice for young people online: don't compare yourself to what you see on a screen.

Online life is curated, it's not real life.

For her, true digital leadership is about being a role model who uses digital tools with intention, ethics, and authenticity. 💡

🌞 Different cities, different languages, different starting points. Yet the young people you'll meet in this video, taking part in YEU activities, events and initiatives across the world, are all reaching for the same things: dignity, opportunity, a real voice in the decisions that shape their lives, and a future worth inheriting. ⚡

🤝 That's what YEU has always been about: bringing different contexts into the same room and discovering how much we share. As the UN reminds us this year, recognising our differences should strengthen our solidarity, never weaken it. 🌱🌈

She also explores the potential impact that unintentional AI use can have on young people.

🚴‍♀️ Pedalling for safer, greener, and more inclusive cities!

During our second Bike Routes activity in Brussels, young people came together to cycle through the city, showing how bikes can be a powerful tool for active citizenship and community engagement.

On 31 July, participants joined Critical Mass Brussels, and on 1 August they rode in front of the European Commission, demonstrating how every kilometre cycled can contribute to safer, greener, and more sustainable urban mobility. 🚲 💚

A new episode of the YEU PET Campaign 2026! ✨

This time, YEU PET Member Andrea Malena took on a double role: moderator of the latest episode of Coffee With, and participant in the last Bike Routes activity of the Bicycle project in Brussels, Belgium. 🇧🇪

In Coffee With, Andrea sat down with Otilia Colceriu to explore her experience with EU&U and their outstanding commitment, an informal conversation that gets to the human touch behind successful stories, careers and expertise. ☕🎤

With Bicycle, he joined young people on two wheels to underline that riding a bike today is a way to respect the environment and reduce pollution, to connect and make new friends, and to raise awareness on safety and inclusive mobility. 🚲🌱

Two very different settings, one shared outcome: connections built between young, like-minded people, and communities that come out more active and more responsible. 💫

🚀Reflect project Bootcamp Training has officially come to an end!💻🎉

Yesterday, we wrapped up the 6th and final session of the REFLECT Bootcamp Training, marking the successful completion of an inspiring learning journey for our facilitators!🌍🫂

Over the course of six interactive sessions, facilitators from all partner countries strengthened their knowledge and developed practical skills to lead meaningful virtual exchanges. Together, they explored topics including inclusive facilitation techniques, trauma-informed approaches, managing sensitive discussions, conflict resolution in virtual settings, and the effective use of digital tools such as Zoom, Padlet, Mentimeter, and Jamboard to create engaging and participatory online spaces. 💬🛠️

👥 Throughout the Bootcamp, the facilitators demonstrated incredible commitment, actively practicing their facilitation skills, learning from one another, and building confidence to support diverse groups of young people.

🎓✨ Following six weeks of learning and practice, the REFLECT facilitators are now ready to lead the upcoming virtual exchanges, supporting the project's mission of bringing together refugees and young people from conflict-affected regions in Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa through safe, inclusive, and interactive spaces that foster intercultural dialogue, and active participation.

For our second Bike Routes activity in Brussels, YEU organised a back-to-back ride bringing young people together to explore cycling as a tool for civic participation and community engagement.

On the first day, participants joined Critical Mass Brussels, cycling through the city as part of a collective ride promoting safer, greener and more inclusive streets. It was a chance to experience how cycling can become a visible form of participation and a way to raise awareness about the needs of young citizens.

The day after, participants gathered in front of the EU-Commission for a short follow-up ride. They reflected on their experience of joining Critical Mass and discussed the impact that collective cycling actions can have on local and European biking policies, public space and urban mobility.

REFLECT 2nd Webinar took place today! 💻🌍

As part of the Reflect project, coordinated by YEU and co-funded by the European Union, participants came together to explore how to create safe and inclusive online spaces for intercultural dialogue. 🤝

During this webinar, we discussed the key principles of facilitating respectful and meaningful virtual exchanges, the challenges of engaging diverse groups online, and the important role facilitators play in promoting empathy, equal participation, and mutual understanding. 🫂✨
