Looking back at !

A big thank you to everyone who joined us in Porto last week! We’d especially like to extend our deepest gratitude to Jorge Prendas and the Casa da Música team for their warm welcome and the chance to discover such a diverse and dedicated education programme ❤️

Here are some of our key takeaways:

✨ Sustainable practice must consider production, audience, and community as interconnected. No single solution should be seen as a fix-all.

✨ Environmental sustainability should be viewed as an ongoing, adaptive process where arts organisations prioritise long-term impacts, not just meeting basic “green” standards.

✨ Organisations need to ask themselves which barriers are keeping minorities from full access to artistic participation, and what they are doing to address them.

✨ In-situ performances can enable us to reach new audiences, but to be effective, the space has to be artistically relevant to the work.

And here’s what delegates had to say:

“A really positive and warm environment for us to share ideas, get to know each other, and work together.”

“Inspiring conference, inspiring place, inspiring people.”

“I really liked the increasing amount of representation of people and languages from different parts of Europe”

“It was a very enriching and stimulating experience, and we came back with lots of ideas and new aspirations!”

Anything to add? Feel free to comment below!

Happy World Opera Day, live from Porto! 🎉

This year’s theme is "Benvenuti all’Opera"! In 2023, Italian opera singing was added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list. WOD seeks to celebrate the power of song to awaken emotions and bring people together - something we've been talking about a lot over the past two days.

Introducing our hosts, Casa da Música!

Led by Jorge Prendas, Casa da Música’s Education Department has been providing music programs since 2005, offering a wide range of activities for all ages. These include concerts for babies, school workshops, community projects, and training for musicians and teachers. Many participants, who began their musical journeys through these programs, have gone on to become musicians and educators.

We’re delighted to be hosted by them for the second time! « Opera, Dance and Disability », our first partnership back in 2010, led to the groundbreaking publication « What’s Special ? », in which we explored the emerging field of work for and with people living with disabilities.

Thank you for having us again, and here’s to many more years of fruitful partnership!

Big questions at :
✨ What does the future hold? ✨

At our upcoming conference in Porto, we’re planning to get a little introspective!

As the European arts education sector has evolved from “education” to holistic engagement, so has RESEO. With the help of our members and creative consultant Ariane Bieou, we’ll be exploring our current positioning, the language we use to describe arts education work, and the next steps towards becoming an increasingly relevant and diverse European network.
