A new study commissioned by Seas At Risk, from the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research drawing on 1.74 billion km of real voyage data (that’s Earth to Saturn), shows that wind propulsion can deliver real emissions cuts now.

The numbers are hard to ignore:
⛵ 6.3–9.4% fuel savings across the global fleet
🌍 Up to 762 million tonnes of CO₂e saved by 2050 - roughly the equivalent of removing 170 million cars from the road for an entire year
🚢 The top 5000 ships (bulk carriers & tankers) could unlock 50% of the savings
And yet, without stronger policy? Just 0.2% emissions reduction by 2050
Let that sink in.

Paris Fashion Week celebrates creativity and innovation, but there’s an invisible side to many modern textiles.

Synthetic fabrics shed tiny plastic fibres during washing. Some of these microplastics make their way into rivers and seas.

Awareness isn’t about giving up fashion, it’s about pushing for smarter solutions so style and sustainability go hand in hand.

Why? Because right now, they are handing out permits to poison our water, food, and nature 🤢

📢 We stand with 570+ organisations from across the EU and beyond to call on MEPs to address unprecedented attacks on NGOs in the European Parliament and ensure that citizens’ voices are heard!

This attack on civic space risks impacting citizens’ ability to contribute to issues that affect them, including the biodiversity🐙 and climate🔥 crises.

🌊 Around a decade ago, the EU 🇪🇺 pushed for and just three years ago, not a single country in Europe publicly defended a precautionary approach on this emerging industry.

Today, on 2024, we are releasing an eye-opening report showcasing a considerable position shift!
➡️ EU wants a ban on this destructive activity
➡️ EU has cut DSM funding significantly
➡️ 11 European countries defend a moratorium, precautionary pause or ban on DSM
➡️ 3 European countries have started banning DSM within their own jurisdiction

It is encouraging to see this progress, but there is still work to be done. We provide seven policy recommendations for Europe to to and . 💙 Which one do you like the most? 👀

The report arrives at a crucial time. Negotiations on a mining code within the International Seabed Authority (ISA) are being rushed ahead to allow DSM to start as soon as 2025. Meanwhile, 25 countries - and counting - worldwide support a precautionary pause, ban, or moratorium on DSM, citing insufficient scientific understanding of the negative impacts and effects of this emerging activity on the marine environment. 🏛️

The upcoming ISA Assembly meeting in July-August is a pivotal moment, as it will discuss a General Policy on the protection of the marine environment, potentially enabling the enforcement of a moratorium in international waters.

We must take action now to protect our oceans and marine life for generations to come. 🌊
