The European Federation of Nurses Associations (EFN) was established in 1971 to represent the nursing profession and its interests to the European Institutions, based on the nursing education and free movement Directives being drafted by the European Commission then. Representing more than one million nurses over 34 National Nurses Associations at European Level, the EFN is the independent voice of the nursing profession.

At the Implementation Dialogue, stressed that ’s mandate must be expanded to coordinate the planning and deployment in crisis times, otherwise having enough MCMs will not be sufficient. EFN is ready and willing to continue to work closely with HERA to bring concrete changes at the frontline!

, recognised as the united voice for nurses in the EU, was invited by Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, Lahbib, to the on the Medical Countermeasures Strategy, where the ’ perspective is critical to strengthen concrete frontline exploitation to prepare the EU for the next health crisis.

The SANT committee discussed the important topic of digital health, including in relation to health workforce sustainability and capacity development. This is key for EFN, as it links to crisis prepardness, AI, EHDS and Cybersecurity, on which co-creation with the frontline nurses is the only way to ensure patients’ safety and effective implementation and uptake!

EFN lobbying the EP SANT committee which endorsed the SANT opinion to the EMPL INL on Psychosocial Risks. Importantly, the opinion includes recommendations on Safe Staffing Levels, and recognises that nurses, together with doctors, are the EU professions facing the greatest exposure to psychosocial risks, as highlighted by the WHO MeND Survey!

Today participated in the SESAM-WHO collaborative event at . The main takeaway was that simulation can play an important role as a tool for , , and . However, this requires simulation to be planned and delivered always in collaboration with , as the largest component of the health workforce!

today attended the meeting of the National Focal Points in the . EFN raised the need for and as urgent measures to improve recruitment pipelines. Futhermore, Tony Fitzpatrick, EFN Committee lead, shared important experiences on from Ireland.

The Finnish delegation visited an elderly home in Brussels, le Sagittaire, with Director Gaetan Meuleman, who developed an innovative train station to be used for clients with dementia; the results are impressive: less agitation, less stress, less medication. It is about going on travel, back in time, with the client! Well done Gaetan!

To conclude their week in Brussels, the Finnish nurses visited an elderly care home, where they learned more on projects put in place, namely to support in caring those elderly with dementia.
