EuroFIR's mission is to develop, publish and encourage exploitation of food composition information and promote international cooperation to improve data quality and access. Its purpose is to develop, harmonise and deliver food composition data, and supporting information, underpinning food and health research throughout Europe and beyond. EuroFIR draws together the best available food information

from more than 30 EU and international compiler organisations and promotes international cooperation in data standardisation and interoperability to make food data FAIRer. Members and clients include individuals and organisations working in academia, healthcare, and the public sector (especially food science, nutrition and dietetics) as well as SMEs (ICT and software developers). EuroFIR has been involved in numerous EU- and otherwise-funded projects and tenders providing data, tools, and knowhow to support research and innovation in a wide range of food, nutrition, and health topics. EuroFIR also has more than a decade’s experience in communication and dissemination addressing the needs of primary stakeholders (i.e. beneficiaries and funding agencies) as well as secondary stakeholders, such as user communities and, more widely, policymakers, food industry and retailers, and others along the food chain (e.g.

🚨The Danish Food Composition Database has been released with a redesigned interface!

The update is structured around three distinct user needs:

💡Consumer view — a simple overview of the most requested nutritional data.
💡Labeling view — direct work with nutritional declarations, including percentages of recommended daily intake.
💡Professional view — full access to all available data and associated references.

Several additional improvements have been introduced. The database is based on international standards, including LanguaL, FoodEx2, and FoodOn. The corresponding metadata and technical descriptions are now openly accessible, supporting transparency and usability for researchers, authorities, and industry.

With this release, the name Frida is no longer used. The database continues under the Danish Food Composition Database name.

Grow your network. Earn rewards. EuroFIR Referral Program.

We're delighted to share our Referral Program — a simple way to expand the EuroFIR community while rewarding the Members who make it stronger.
Here's how it works:

1. Refer a new Member. Set up an introductory meeting between EuroFIR and an organisation that could benefit from joining our network.

2. Earn a discount. If that organisation becomes a Member within 6 months of the meeting, you'll receive a 10% discount on your next year's membership fee.

3. Share the benefit. The new organisation also receives a 10% discount on their first year of membership — a win for everyone.

4. Refer more, save more. Introduce three or more new Members and your discount rises to 15% on your next fee.

Every introduction helps build a richer, more connected food information network across Europe and beyond — and you're rewarded for being part of that growth. Interested in referring an organisation, or want to learn more? Get in touch with us at [email protected] !

During the last session of Day 1 of EuroFIR Food Forum 2026, EuroFIR members had the opportunity to take part in a highly practical workshop session led by Siân Astley, focusing on two key challenges in food composition data:

🔹 The use of factors and recipes in deriving nutrient values
🔹 Addressing gaps in data and metadata – and exploring how generative AI can help

What stood out was the clear shift away from theory and towards real-world application. Through shared scenarios and common compiler decisions, the discussion centred on what’s actually feasible — balancing data quality, transparency, and comparability across national databases.
