On 2 June 2026, the event “The Role of Civil Society in Recovery and EU Integration of Ukraine” brought together around 80 representatives of civil society organisations, EU Institutions, Permanent Representations of EU Member States, media and otherstakeholders ahead of the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC) in Gdańsk, Poland.

Key messages included:
🔹 Recovery and EU integration should go hand in hand, with reconstruction aligned to accession-related reforms and EU standards so that every rebuilding effort brings Ukraine closer to the EU.
🔹 The Member States need to be honest and give credible signals about Ukraine's accession. Concrete steps, such opening of clusters, would demonstrate continued commitment and help maintain reform efforts and public confidence in European integration process.
🔹Local governments play a key role in restoring Ukraine's human capital. By creating jobs, improving local services and living conditions, and involving citizens in decision-making, they can help encourage people to return and rebuild their communities.
🔹 Support for veterans’ reintegration is a key priority, with civil society organisations already contributing valuable on-the-ground expertise in psychosocial care, legal aid, rehabilitation, and skills development and informing evidence-based policymaking.

We would like to thank all speakers, moderators and participants who contributed to this important discussion, the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the European Union for hosting the event, the Mission of Ukraine to the EU and our partners—the Ukrainian National Platform Українська платформа Форуму громадянського суспільства Східного Партнерства, Stefan Batory Foundation, the European Endowment For Democracy and the European Union for helping bring this timely exchange.

EU ministers are meeting today to discuss renewing Ukrainian refugee protections, but the proposed renewal raises complex questions about eligibility criteria and how these protections should operate in the long run.

Our event titled “The Role of Civil Society in Recovery and EU Integration of Ukraine” brought together key civil society and policy experts this week to discuss how civil society, governments, and EU partners can help address Ukraine’s human capital challenges such as brain drain and displacement caused by the war.

Discover more about it in this article by The Kyiv Independent:

The EU is set to discuss extending Ukrainian refugee protections for a sixth time, amid thorny questions over whether and when more than 4 million refugees in Europe will return home.

🇦🇲 As Armenia approaches its parliamentary elections on 7 June, public attention in the country, as well as abroad, is high.

This vote will play a significant role in shaping Armenia’s political direction, while serving as an important measure of public trust in democratic institutions, governance, and reform efforts.

In the lead-up to the elections, we invite you to read a collection of publications providing valuable insights into the country’s evolving political and information environment by delegates of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum in Armenia to better understand the factors shaping the electoral landscape and the role of civil society in supporting democratic processes.

Safe spaces to create and grow. Integration of marginalised youth. Basketball courts. Music rooms. Classrooms.

These are just a glimpse of the spaces and ideas we discovered at Fryshuset, Sweden’s largest youth organisation, during our visit to their premises last week as part of the Eastern Partnership Youth Conference.

As this year’s conference focused on “Enlarging Youth Civic Space”, Fryshuset offered a powerful example of what this can look like in practice: creating inclusive environments where young people are empowered to participate, express themselves, and shape their own futures.

For over 40 years, Fryshuset has been dedicated to empowering young people by providing the tools, opportunities, and support they need to realise their potential and find their place in society, guided by the belief that encouragement, trust, responsibility, and understanding are essential in supporting youth.

We would like to thank Fryshuset for warmly welcoming us to their premises and for inspiring us all to think further about how culture, sports, and creativity can support both the personal and professional growth of young people.

One week on from our Eastern Partnership Youth Conference concluded and we are still contemplating the insightful points raised throughout the event. Featuring contributions from both EU officials and regional youth leaders, the panels throughout the event focused on success stories and lessons learned in youth participation, the meaning of youth engagement in building and protecting democracy, and the threats and ways to tackle misinformation.

Be sure to check out this article that details the event:

The ‘EU4Youth: Youth Engagement and Empowerment’ project actively joined the Eastern Partnership Youth Conference, organised in Stockholm between 12-13 May by the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum with the financial support of the European Union.
