♀️ Nos appels à candidatures WAPIC, acronyme de « Women Alumni Participation in International Conferences » (Participation des anciennes étudiantes à des conférences internationales), ont été créés pour offrir à nos alumni l’occasion de présenter leurs travaux de recherche, de favoriser la collaboration internationale et de se tenir informées des avancées dans leurs domaines respectifs.

🗒️ À cette fin, cet appel vise à soutenir, en tout ou en partie, la participation des candidates sélectionnées à une conférence internationale en lien avec leurs travaux de recherche.

♀️ Our WAPIC calls, short for Women Alumni Participation in International Conferences, were created to provide an opportunity for our women alumni to showcase their research, foster international collaboration, and gain exposure to developments in their fields.

🗒️ To do this, the call aims to support selected candidates' participation in an international conference relevant to their research, either fully or in part.

✅Le programme CEBioS a récemment organisé deux webinaires en ligne afin d'accompagner les projets « Indicateurs pour les politiques », faisant suite à l'atelier de formation tenu au Bénin en janvier 2026.

🐝Un premier webinaire était consacré aux Espèces Exotiques Envahissantes (EEE), avec l'expertise de Sonia VAnderhoeven de la Belgian Biodiversity Platform, autour du développement de checklists d'espèces exotiques, d'indicateurs et de la mobilisation des données.

📕Un second webinaire a porté sur la Liste rouge des écosystèmes (RLE), avec des experts de l'UICN France et de IUCN International. Les échanges ont permis d'approfondir la méthodologie d'évaluation du risque d'effondrement des écosystèmes et d'accompagner les projets menés au Burundi et au Bénin sur les marais et les écosystèmes forestiers.

Ces rencontres illustrent l'importance du partage d'expertise, du dialogue entre scientifiques et décideurs, ainsi que de la coopération internationale pour renforcer le suivi de la biodiversité et soutenir la mise en œuvre du Cadre mondial pour la biodiversité. 🌍🤝

✅The CEBioS programme recently organised two online webinars to support the ‘Indicators for Policy’ projects, following on from the training workshop held in Benin in January 2026.

🐝The first webinar focused on Invasive Alien Species (IAS), drawing on the expertise of Sonia VAnderhoeven from the Belgian Biodiversity Platform, and covered the development of alien species checklists, indicators and data collection.

📕 A second webinar focused on the Red List of Ecosystems (RLE), featuring experts from IUCN France and IUCN International. The discussions provided an opportunity to explore in greater depth the methodology for assessing the risk of ecosystem collapse and to support projects being carried out in Burundi and Benin on wetlands and forest ecosystems.

These meetings illustrate the importance of sharing expertise, dialogue between scientists and decision-makers, and international cooperation in strengthening biodiversity monitoring and supporting the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework. 🌍🤝

✅Het CEBioS-programma heeft onlangs twee online webinars georganiseerd ter ondersteuning van de projecten „Indicatoren voor het beleid”, in het verlengde van de opleidingsworkshop die in januari 2026 in Benin werd gehouden.

🐝Een eerste webinar was gewijd aan invasieve uitheemse soorten (IUS), met de expertise van Sonia VAnderhoeven van het Belgian Biodiversity Platform, en ging over de ontwikkeling van checklists van uitheemse soorten, indicatoren en het verzamelen van gegevens.

📕 Een tweede webinar ging over de Rode Lijst van ecosystemen (RLE), met deskundigen van IUCN Frankrijk en IUCN International. De discussies boden de gelegenheid om de methodologie voor de beoordeling van het risico op het instorten van ecosystemen te verdiepen en de projecten in Burundi en Benin met betrekking tot moerassen en bosecosystemen te ondersteunen.

Deze bijeenkomsten illustreren het belang van het delen van expertise, de dialoog tussen wetenschappers en beleidsmakers, en internationale samenwerking om de monitoring van de biodiversiteit te versterken en de uitvoering van het Wereldkader voor Biodiversiteit te ondersteunen. 🌍🤝

🌍 Our colleague Han de Koeijer chaired the Informal Advisory Committee on Capacity building for the Nagoya Protocol. The meeting took place from 1 - 4 June 2026 at the premises of the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, in Montreal, Canada. The group discussed the second assessment and review of the Nagoya Protocol and prepared conclusions for consideration by the 7th meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation (SBI). The 7th meeting of the SBI will take place in Nairobi, Kenya.

🐞 Based on the assessment documents that the Secretariat had prepared it became clear that the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol has advanced considerably. However, there are still many actions that should be taken by the Parties to the Protocol to ensure that the Protocol is fully functional. Some of the main points were to use simplified measures to access genetic resources for non commercial research as many researchers couldn't access the genetic resources for their thesis. Other points were a request to parties to enter the information on their procedures for access, the International recognised certificates of compliance, best practices and opportunities for capacity building on the ABS Clearing House.

🔎🌿 À l’occasion du Taxonomy Recognition Day, nous souhaitons remercier chaleureusement toutes les personnes ayant soumis une candidature pour notre bourse GTI !

🙏 Un immense merci également à tous les tuteurs et tutrices, qui ont reçu de nombreuses demandes ces dernières semaines. Votre soutien est précieux pour la prochaine génération de taxonomistes.

Cette année, nous avons reçu 69 candidatures complètes (et bien plus en considérant les incomplètes) ! Le jury va maintenant se réunir afin de sélectionner un nombre très limité de candidat·es.

Les résultats seront communiqués durant la seconde moitié du mois de juin.

🇧🇪 Nous avons hâte d’annoncer les candidat·es qui auront l’opportunité de venir en Belgique pour un double séjour taxonomique dans une institution de recherche belge !

🔎🌿 On the occasion of Taxonomy Recognition Day, we would like to warmly thank everyone who submitted an application for our GTI fellowship programme!

🙏 A huge thank you as well to all supervisors and mentors, who received many requests over the past few weeks. Your support is invaluable for the next generation of taxonomists.

This year, we received 69 complete applications (and many more with the incomplete ones)! The jury will now meet to select only a very limited number of candidates.

Results will be communicated during the second half of June.

🇧🇪 We are looking forward to announcing the selected candidates who will have the opportunity to come to Belgium for a double taxonomic research stay within a Belgian research institution!

Ces bourses financent des séjours de recherche taxonomique destinés à des étudiants ou chercheurs issus de nos pays partenaires qui n'ont pas encore bénéficié d'une bourse GTI dans le passé.

👩‍🔬Les candidatures de femmes sont vivement encouragées, car CEBioS veillera a ce que plusieurs femmes soient sélectionnées.
