Last night at Berlaymont Toastmasters, we explored a simple but powerful idea: pitching is public speaking, but not all public speaking is pitching.
In an interactive workshop led by Thomas Blaye from Fonske Leuven Toastmasters, we worked on the fundamentals of connecting with an audience: crafting a clear message, structuring ideas effectively, and delivering them authentically through the 5 P’s: Pitch, Pace, Perception, Position and Persona.
And then we practised. A lot.
Members and guests stepped up to deliver 3-minute pitches on an incredible range of topics:
🌎 Why we should rethink Colombia
🏋️ Why everyone should try Body Pump
🥕 Why sustainable food cooperatives matter
✈️ Why taking a year to travel the world can change your life
🧘 Why solitary retreats are worth experiencing
💭 Why we should learn to love our anxiety
Through every speech, we learned together by focusing on three essential elements: Message, Delivery, and Structure.
What made the evening special was the balance between practical frameworks, immediate application, and thoughtful feedback. It was a reminder that we all learn by giving and receiving practical feedback.
A huge thank you to Thomas Blaye for bringing your energy, expertise, and humour to the workshop. Your guidance gave everyone practical tools they can immediately apply both inside and outside Toastmasters.
