Represented by our Member Organisations Development Officer, Imaan Khan, FEMYSO took part in the European Civic Forum General Assembly and the launch of the 2026 Civic Space Report.

The gathering brought together civil society actors from across Europe to exchange on the challenges facing civic space, democratic participation, and fundamental rights, while exploring ways to strengthen collective action and resilience.

The launch of the Civic Space Report at the European Parliament highlighted growing concerns around restrictions on civil society and the shrinking space for civic engagement across Europe.

For FEMYSO, these discussions are particularly relevant as Muslim youth and civil society organisations continue to navigate increasing pressures on participation, representation, and advocacy. Strengthening alliances and defending civic space remain essential to ensuring inclusive and democratic societies for all.

Thank you to the European Civic Forum for convening this important space for dialogue and cooperation.

Eid al Adha mubarak from our FEMYSO family to yours 🌙✨

As we mark this blessed occasion, we are reminded of the values of sacrifice, compassion, solidarity, and gratitude that bring our communities together.

We also keep in our thoughts those spending this Eid far from their loved ones, and those facing hardship, war, and genocide. May Allah grant them ease, safety, justice, and relief. 🤲🏼

May this Eid bring peace, barakah, and acceptance to you and your loved ones.

FEMYSO expresses its profound grief and unequivocal condemnation following the terrorist attack targeting worshippers at the Islamic Center of San Diego, California.

This horrific act of violence is far from a one-time incident, it comes amid a continued rise in anti-Muslim hatred, dehumanising and demonising rhetoric, and the normalisation of Islamophobia across public and political discourse.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families of Amin Abdullah, Nadir Awad and Mansoor Kazziha, and stand in full solidarity with all those affected.

Across Europe and elsewhere, Islamophobic rhetoric continues to be amplified by political actors, media figures, and extremist movements, contributing to an environment of hostility and exclusion.

We call on political leaders, institutions, and media actors to take urgent and meaningful action against Islamophobia. Words are not enough - concrete measures are needed to protect Muslim communities and prevent further violence.

On Europe Day, we are reminded that values must be reflected in practice.

Across Europe, gaps remain between commitments to equality, human rights, and non discrimination, and how these are implemented in reality, including in addressing Islamophobia and engaging meaningfully with Muslim youth.

Ensuring consistency between principles and policies is essential to uphold fundamental rights and maintain credibility.

Listen to Muslim youth.
Protect fundamental rights.
Align policies with principles.

As part of our myth-busting series on Islamophobia, we continue challenging common misconceptions that shape how the issue is understood.

Islamophobia does not only exist when discrimination is explicit or intentional. It can also operate through institutional practices, policies, and assumptions that create unequal outcomes for Muslims and those perceived to be Muslim.

Nor is Islamophobia limited to the political fringes. Across Europe, anti-Muslim narratives have increasingly entered mainstream discourse, influencing public attitudes and political debate.

In this post, we unpack two further myths and explore how Islamophobia functions both structurally and socially.

Highlights from our Eid Reception in Brussels 🌙

More than a celebration, the Eid Reception is a space for institutional engagement and advocacy, bringing together European Muslim youth, policymakers, and civil society actors for meaningful dialogue and relationship-building.

The event fostered new partnerships and strengthened existing ones, supporting collaboration on shared priorities around inclusion and social justice.

Through panel discussions on interfaith dialogue and advocacy, we continue to create spaces for exchange and collective action.
