EORNA was founded in 1980 by a group of innovative European perioperative nurses and formally launched in Copenhagen Denmark in 1992. The EORNA board is comprised of at most two representatives from the official associations in each member country. Board meetings are held bi-annually, in different member countries. The official language of EORNA is English. EORNA exists to enhance and develop perioperative patient care across Europe. It does this by:
Promoting and maintaining a high standard of perioperative patient care
Being the influential voice of perioperative nurses in Europe
Linking and collaborating with relevant European and international organizations

Emergency Nurses Day | 14 October

Today we celebrate emergency nurses across Europe and around the world.

Emergency nursing is demanding, fast-paced and unpredictable. Every day, emergency nurses assess risk, make critical decisions, respond to unexpected situations and provide care when patients and families may be at their most vulnerable.

These same principles of vigilance, teamwork and patient advocacy are central to perioperative nursing.

Our recent EORNA President Insights have been exploring how safety is created through everyday actions – from identifying risks and speaking up to building strong safety cultures and supporting nurses with education and training.

Today, we also send our appreciation to our colleagues at the Emergency Nurses Association and to emergency nurses across the US who continue to champion their profession.

To all emergency nurses: thank you for the skill, resilience and compassion you bring to every patient.
