JOB OPPORTUNITY | Executive Secretary (Full-Time, 6 Months)

Don Bosco International, based in Brussels, is looking for a dynamic and motivated Executive Secretary to join its team for a 6‑month full-time maternity leave replacement.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to European advocacy, hashtag engagement, and the promotion of youth rights, while supporting the mission of DBI and the Salesian Youth Ministry Department.

The European Union is setting out the priorities for future youth policies beyond 2027. As Don Bosco International, we are actively participating in this process with the aim of bringing the voices and genuine needs of the younger generations to the attention of policy-makers in Brussels.

Through this short survey, we aim to gather the views of young people (aged 18–30) on key challenges such as:

💼 Employment, economic security and housing
🧠 Mental health and social wellbeing
🌱 Ecological and digital transition (including the impact of AI)
📝 The questionnaire takes about 5 minutes to complete and is available in several languages. The data collected will be essential for developing concrete policy recommendations.

On 9 June 2026, DBI took part in the high-level dialogue seminar hosted at the European Parliament under Article 17 TFEU: “Health and well-being in the age of Artificial Intelligence.”

Representing DBI as guest speaker, Prof. Paweł Wątor SDB, Professor at the Università Pontificia Salesiana (UPS) and member of the SYM - Salesian Youth Ministry Department, contributed to the panel:
🔹 Born digital, seeking meaning: young people navigating AI, isolation and well-being.

Drawing from his experience accompanying young people across Europe, Prof. Wątor highlighted the growing impact of loneliness, digital isolation, and online risks on younger generations. He emphasised a key message: young people often seek in the digital world the kind of human relationships based on listening and trust that they cannot find elsewhere.

In response to these challenges, we reaffirmed the importance of education, prevention, and community-based approaches to ensure that technological innovation always goes hand in hand with human dignity, meaningful human relationships, and the well-being of young people.

From 17 to 23 May, we joined the Study Session "Going further: rights and opportunities for all" at the European Youth Centre Budapest.

During the session, young people and educators from Don Bosco Youth-Net (DBYN) were introduced to the Council of Europe’s ENTER recommendation alongside the UN Charter, bridging international policy frameworks with the realities of grass-roots youth work.
The learning process followed a clear path: first, raising awareness of the tangible and intangible barriers that define social exclusion today, and then exploring practical opportunities for social inclusion to inspire concrete actions among the participants.

Recognising that lasting peace at the local level begins with social inclusion, the teams translated this inspiration into two core outputs:

🔹 The Emergency Peacebuilding Kit: A rapid-response educational methodology designed from scratch to help youth workers heal social fractures and promote dialogue.
🔹 Dissemination Strategy: Frameworks to apply this kit directly within local realities, using Human Rights Education (HRE) to "reach the unreachable" and empower the most marginalised young people.

A heartfelt thank you to the brilliant trainers and facilitators who expertly guided the participants to deliver these concrete projects throughout this fruitful week✨

This experience perfectly reflects our core mission: providing a safe, stimulating space where young people can ground their knowledge and become true protagonists of positive change.

Today, May 9, we celebrate Europe Day, commemorating the historic declaration made on this very day in 1950 by French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman, who presented an ambitious plan for greater cooperation in Europe. 🇪🇺

It was precisely in this spirit of community collaboration that an important mission visit to Brussels took place from May 4 to 7 by a delegation from the Salesian Co-programming Committee in Italy.

𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀.

Hosted by 𝗠𝗘𝗣 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮́𝘀 𝗧𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗿 𝗞𝘂𝗹𝗷𝗮 as part of Mental Health Europe’s European Mental Health Week, the event will bring together EU and national perspectives on how families, schools, communities, and wider social systems can better protect and promote children’s mental health and well-being.

On behalf of DBI and Salesiani Italia, Fr. Elio Cesari will present the "Bridge2Autonomy", an innovative project that aims to bridge the gap between school and adult life for students with cognitive disabilities, promoting their inclusion through the new role of Inclusion Tutor.

Belgio – “Ritorno a quale costo?” Gruppi cristiani segnalano Diritti Umani a rischio nelle politiche di rimpatrio dell’UE

(ANS – Bruxelles) – Insieme ad altre sei organizzazioni cristiane, “Don Bosco International” (DBI), l’organismo che rappresenta i Salesiani di Don Bosco nelle sedi dell’Unione Europea (UE), ha manifestato attraverso un comunicato la sua profonda preoccupazione per la posizione del Parlamento europeo del 26 marzo sul regolamento UE sui rimpatri, una riforma che dà priorità ai rimpatri forzati e alle misure punitive rispetto alla dignità umana.
