🧠 Could what you eat affect your chance of a stroke? The evidence says yes.

👉 Too much salt can raise blood pressure, and high blood pressure is one of the biggest drivers of stroke risk
👉 Too much saturated fat (found in some meats and dairy) can cause a build-up in your arteries, making them narrower and more likely to become blocked
👉 Ultra-processed foods, things like ready meals, fizzy drinks and packaged snacks that contain ingredients you wouldn't use at home, for example artificial colourings or preservatives are linked to a higher chance of stroke

On the plus side: vegetables, fruit, wholegrains, fish, legumes and olive oil, a Mediterranean diet, are all shown to decrease your stroke risk.

You don't have to change everything at once. Start with thinking about what is on your plate.

🧠 Most things that increase the chance of a stroke don’t come with warning signs.

High blood pressure, high cholesterol, atrial fibrillation, type 2 diabetes. They’re silent, often symptomless and can be dangerous.

The good news? They’re also treatable. But only if you know you have them. That’s why regular health check-ups matter.
