Established in 1983, ECF is today representing 38 countries, with over 500,000 active members, the voice of millions of cyclists. Our mission is to ensure that bicycle use achieves its fullest potential so as to bring about sustainable mobility and public well-being. ECF projects include annual Velo-city® conference, EuroVelo® long-distance cycle routes as well as the Cities for Cyclists network and the Scientists for Cycling network.

With ‘carspreading’ looming large over Europe, this poses safety risks for cyclists, pedestrians, and other vulnerable road users. Bigger cars also mean less space for active travel and more energy usage.

We can combat this problem with policy levers such as weight-differentiated parking charges at the local level and establishing EU-wide dimensional limits for new passenger cars.

Meet the recipients of the 2026 ECF x Cities for Better Health Travel Grant! 🚲🌎
In the first part of a three-part series introducing the recipients of the 2026 Travel Grant, we are pleased to present:

This year’s recipients came from Argentina, Brazil, Ghana, India, Kenya, Lebanon, Malawi, Mexico, Turkey, Uganda and Ukraine.

Owning a bike can be a powerful first step toward greater mobility and independence, but the upfront cost can be a barrier.

Fortunately, governments across Europe are introducing purchase incentives that help residents and businesses acquire a range of bicycles, including e-bikes and cargo bikes.

ECF and Wolt are proud to present five case studies showcasing the diversity and impact of these incentive schemes. Together, they demonstrate how targeted support can make cycling more accessible for households and businesses alike.

𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗖𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲: 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗩𝗲𝗹𝗼-𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗥𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶

The Healthy Cycling Challenge, launched by Cities for Better Health (Novo Nordisk) together with ECF, called for innovative, ready-to-implement solutions that use cycling to promote public health and social equity in urban neighbourhoods.

Eight months after their official presentation, the three winners of the Healthy Cycling Challenge showcased how their project has moved into implementation during the session “Promoting healthy and sustainable urban neighbourhoods in Peru, Nepal and Brazil,” at 𝗩𝗲𝗹𝗼-𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗥𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶.

🚲 Leticia Leda Sabino presented Pedalando Juntas, a project developing community bike-sharing systems in São Paulo’s favelas, implemented by Walkability Institute.

🚲 Carolina Butrich presented Pedalea Seguro, a project strengthening urban cycling in Lima, Tacna and Trujillo through data, tactical urbanism, and community engagement implemented by Sociedad Peruana de Derecho Ambiental.

🚲 Nivesh Dugar presented Pedal Paathshala, a community learning initiative that combines cycling education, school bike libraries, and women-led training, implemented by Cycle City Network Nepal (CCNN).
