Public Libraries 2030

Public Libraries 2030 Public Libraries 2030 is a Brussels-based advocacy organisation and hub for innovative EU projects in the European public library sector.

All European countries have public libraries. The 65,000 public libraries within communities invite people to read books and to use computers and the internet, but also offer courses on a wide range of topics. Trained staff provides personal assistance and are a resource tailored to the members of their local communities. We believe that the initiatives we are championing will leverage the power a

nd opportunities offered by Europe’s public libraries and can bring a change in the delivery of lifelong learning opportunities to a wide range of European citizens. Public libraries are a space – trusted and open to all – to learn, discover and share.

🗓️ Our final Lighthouse Session of 2026 is coming up soon, and registrations are still open!

On Monday 11 May, 15:00-16:00 CET, we're hosting “Wonder vs. Transaction: What Is a Library For?” A provocation about purpose, design, and what libraries truly owe their communities.

We'll dig into that question with two brilliant guests: Marie Østergaard, Library Director at Aarhus Public Libraries, and Tommi Laitio, founder of Convivencia Urbana and former Executive Director of Culture & Leisure for the City of Helsinki.

Are you working in a public library and curious about how AI and new technologies are reshaping library services across Europe? 🤔

On 12 May 2026, PL2030, in the frame of the ELAN programme by Eblida, is hosting a free online information session on the ADELE Survey 2.0, a new questionnaire exploring the use of AI and emerging technologies in libraries.

The session will introduce the updated ADELE tool, a free, customisable self-assessment instrument that helps libraries reflect on their digital readiness, and explain how your library's responses will contribute to European-level policy recommendations on digital transformation.

Whether your library has used ADELE before or this is your first time hearing about it, this session is open to all public library professionals. Register by 8 May via this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfjssOW3UvqQpmeLX1VVQBIvU7ls6taVCD4UH2cgT0vLWgb4g/viewform

🧐🌍 When implement a project's framework in different libraries, localised in multiple countries and regions, we want to make sure that its implementation fits the local needs.

🟣 For DigLib - Digital Libraries, the partners developed the Library Living Labs. An approach that allows the testing and validation of DigLib methodology & training materials in real-life conditions (in libraries) - while giving a margin of flexibility for each library to develop its own concept and operational plan.

🟣 🧪 📚 Did you know about the Library Living Labs ?
That's the approach we chose to implement DigLib in 20 public libraries across 4 European countries.

👥 The idea is to create a dynamic learning environment that enables community members to build practical digital skills and explore the potential of new technologies while giving space for each library to develop its own concept and operational plan so that the Living Lab reflects local needs.
