💡Teachers often learn far beyond formal training courses: through collaboration with colleagues, online learning, school projects or simply by adapting their practice every day in the classroom.

But do recognition systems always reflect these realities?

This question is at the heart of the latest report, which examines how recognition systems are adapting to new forms of teacher professional learning.

Teacher education and classroom practice are often discussed as two separate worlds. Yet both are trying to answer many of the same questions: how to approach sustainability in the classroom, how to make sense of digitalisation, how to experiment with new pedagogical approaches.

Bringing these conversations together was a central part of the work carried out within co-education model report, where pre-service teachers, experienced teachers and teacher educators worked through planning, teaching and reflection as a shared process.

Many teachers are asked to implement new priorities in schools such as digitalisation, sustainability, inclusion. While still managing growing administrative demands and limited time for collaboration.

The policy recommendations developed within the 21st Century European Teachers project recognise this challenge directly.

Rather than focusing only on what teachers should learn, the report also looks at the conditions that make professional learning possible: time for collaboration, opportunities for exchange and stronger links between schools and teacher education institutions.
