The ITUC is looking for a qualified researcher/consultant to carry out a trade union assessment of the EU Global Gateway.

The study will examine the Global Gateway through the lens of workers’ rights, trade union participation and the decolonisation of international development cooperation.

🔎 The research will explore:
• How trade unions in donor and recipient countries are involved in Global Gateway projects
• The potential of North–South trade union cooperation to support a more worker-led approach to development
• Whether trade union involvement strengthens the inclusion of decent work in Global Gateway projects
• Good and bad practices through selected case studies in Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America

ITUC-Asia Pacific strongly condemns the conviction of veteran trade union leader Lee Cheuk-yan, alongside pro-democracy activists Chow Hang-tung and Albert Ho, on charges of “inciting subversion” under Hong Kong’s National Security Law.

Lee has dedicated his life to uplifting workers and defending democratic rights through peaceful, lawful means. His conviction raises serious concerns over the criminalisation of peaceful political expression and the shrinking space for freedom of association and expression in Hong Kong.

For the trade union movement, this goes far beyond one individual or Hong Kong. Criminalising the peaceful defence of democratic rights through an overly broad application of national security legislation sets a dangerous precedent for working people across Asia and the Pacific.

ITUC-Asia Pacific calls for the convictions of Lee Cheuk-yan, Chow Hang-tung, and Albert Ho to be quashed and for their immediate and unconditional release.

Dietro ogni piattaforma digitale non c'è un algoritmo neutrale: ci sono scelte, interessi e rapporti di potere.

L'innovazione non può essere una scusa per aggirare i diritti dei lavoratori. Chi lavora attraverso le piattaforme deve poter contare su trasparenza, tutele, libertà sindacale e contrattazione collettiva.

Perché il capo non è un algoritmo: sono le aziende che progettano e utilizzano quegli algoritmi, e devono essere chiamate a risponderne.

Un approfondimento importante sul futuro del lavoro e sulla necessità di mettere le persone, non la tecnologia, al centro.
